Wednesday morning G. W. Kane who lives near Hext (Greer County), came to the Western Lumber Company after a coffin stating that his sister in law Miss Sarah Logsden had been killed by lightning Tuesday evening. He stated that at time of the happening himself, his wife and sister-in-law were all seated in room reading, he being near the open door, his wife in an opposite corner, and Miss Logsden in the center of the room. Suddenly there was a blinding flash and when he recovered he was outside of the house lying on the ground near the door, he arose and walked to the door and picked up Miss Logsden and carried her outside and found that she was dead, her hair being singed off and her hair pins melted. He returned to the house and picked up his wife who still showed signs of life. Another strange incident about the affair is that 2 dogs were lying near the door outside, and after the flash came one was found with its head lying inside the house and the other with its head lying outside. According to last reports Mrs. Kane is recovering. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
