Clint, as he was called by his friends, had been employed the past year by Estel Lyda, where he was loved as one of the family. On Thursday morning, December 1, he in company with Mr. Lyda, were riding horse back, Clinton carrying Little Margrette Lyda in his arms to St. Mary's Institute, when just east of the building the saddle turned letting him partly off, and breaking his leg above the ankle. Then with a desperate effort he raised himself upon the horse's neck, trying to free his foot from stirrup, when the girt broke, throwing him to the ground striking his head and shoulder, still clinging to the little girl who was not hurt, but very much frightened but this caused a sad sorrow to follow her all her life. The little Lyda girls loved him so dearly, and that morning Margrette was so happy. She had so much to tell sister Mary Gertrude. She had another little sister at home. Clint had the faculty of making everyone who knew him love him. When his grandparents lived on the farm in the Bellavista district he lived with them and went to school. There never was a more devoted boy to his mother, sisters, and brother, and being the oldest many responsibilities were his when he was very young. Clint having lived in our home for about a year gave me the opportunity of knowing him as he was. He was more than thoughtful of elderly people and so often we talked of how good his grandparents were, and such uncles and aunts he knew no boy had any better. We could write pages telling of his good qualities. On Tuesday, December 5, at 3 p.m. relatives and friends met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Martin on West Third street and proceeded to Fairlawn cemetery where the services were conducted by Rev. DeVore who spoke words of comfort, told how one so young, and in happy young manhood had been called so sudden from us. We should all live so that when we are called we will be ready to go. The choir sang several beautiful pieces. The beautiful casket and lovely flowers were all an emblem of love. Interment was in charge of Grubitz & Son. He leaves a mother, Mrs. Nellie M. Lusk; three sisters, Mrs. Roy Moore, Mrs. Charles Mabra, and Jessie Lusk, and one brother, Truman Lusk. Also his aged grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Martin, and an unusual large circle of relatives and friends. Mrs. A. L. Hiebirt. (9 Dec 1921, Elk City Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DIED. Clinton Lusk died Monday, December 5, after a short illness caused by being thrown from a horse. He probably received internal injuries. He was twenty-three years old. Funeral services were held at Fairlawn cemetery. Rev. H. S. DeVore officiated. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
