WALTER LYNK (sic) KILLED BY TRAIN. Mrs. Walter Lyng was instantly killed about sixty miles east of St. Louis last Wednesday when the car in which she was riding was struck by a locomotive. Mrs. Lyng has never been here but her husband is well known in this community and his sister Mrs. G. E. Pinkerton and brother Olla Lyng both live here. Details of the accident are lacking at this time but we will undoubtedly be able to give a more complete account later. (18 Jun 1925 Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): (From the Bonne Terre (Missouri) News:) Mrs. Lyng Fatally Hurt In Bus Accident Buried at Bonne Terre, Sunday. The funeral of Mrs. W. W. Lyng, who was killed when the bus in which she was riding was struck by a Missouri-Pacific train at Pevely, Mo., June 4th, was held at the Congregational Church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. F. V. Stevens, pastor of the church. The body was laid to rest in the Bonne Terre cemetery. The deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Francis, of Bonne Terre, and was born in Bonne Terre February 21, 1893. She attended school in that city and was also a member of the Congregational church. She received training in the St. Louis hospitals for the profession of nursing and practiced this profession for about nine years. She was united in marriage to W. W. Lyng at Wilson, Okla., Oct. 3, 1921. Her last home was at Lyman, Okla., where her husband is in the drug business. When the news of the Mrs. Lyng's tragic death reached Bonne Terre a deep gloom was cast over the entire community. Cordelia Francis was known and loved for her sunny disposition and during her nine years of service as a nurse she was constantly giving comfort and advice and ministering to those in need. So much has come to those she knew and loved through her life of service to others that her kind, loving words and noble deeds will live on; and her memory will remain through the years to come. She was a noble character; gentle, kind, affectionate and sincere. The hundreds of friends that gathered at the home, the large funeral and the floral offerings spoke the love and esteem in which Mrs. Lyng was held in Bonne Terre. In her passing her friends have sustained the loss of a true and Christian character, a kind and loving friend and the family have lost a loving and obedient daughter, the husband a devoted wife and the brothers and sisters a loyal and affectionate sister. We extend to them heartfelt sympathy in their great sorrow. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
