L. Brannon were call(ed) to Granite Saturday morning in answer to a phone message saying Jeff Lytle, who is Mrs. Bannon's brother, was shot and killed by W. H. Greagsdon, a garage man at Granite. As near as we can learn the particulars in the case, Mr. Lytle with his two boys, Roy and Bonnie (sic), 16 and 18 years of age, drove their auto into Greagsdon's garage for a little repair work. Greagsdon wanted to remove the magneto, but Mr. Lytle would not allow that saying the company said if anything got wrong to return the magneto and it would be repaired free of charge. The garage man said he knew how to repair an auto and proceeded to take things apart. Mr. Lytle and the garage man had quite a "spat," until finally Mr. Lytle turned to walk out the garage. As he walked out the door the garage man shot him in the back, the ball passing thru the backbone and lodging in his breast. Mr. Lytle told one of his sons to get a doctor but Greagsdon threw his gun down on him and told him to stand still. The other boy started to raise his father up off his face and he threw his gun down on him too and told him to let Lytle alone. Greagsdon then held his pistol in Lytle's face until he died, saying, "one shot was all I needed to get you" and cursing him during the time. This is as near the details as handed us by Mr. Brannon, who went to Granite and looked into the matter. Greagsdon is a northern man, is lodged in jail at Mangum without bail. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
