Little Billie Alice Mabra, three year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Mabra of this city, was drowned Monday afternoon in a small pool of water near the family home in the west part of town, while playing with her dog. It is stated that little Billie had gone down on the creek to play and when the pet dog returned to the house wet and seemed greatly agitated, Mrs. Mabra went with the dog to the creek and found her little daughter drowned in a small pool of water which she had stepped into. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock with Rev. Z. E. Twitty officiating and interment made in the Doxey-Sayre cemetery. The Journal joins with the friends of the family with sympathy in their bereavement. (29 Apr 1926, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): A little three-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Mabra, section foreman on the Rock Island railroad, was drowned on Monday afternoon in Long Creek, one mile west of this city. The Mabra family lived in one of the railroad houses at the west end of the railroad and Long Creek runs only a few feet west of the house. The yard around the house is well fenced. The little girl was playing with a puppy in the yard only a few minutes before she was missed and it is supposed that she got the gate open in some manner and strayed to the creek. When Mr. Mabra returned home from work, shortly after five o'clock, he inquired for the child, and Mrs. Mabra informed him that she was playing in the yard. A search failed to find her and just at this point the dog came running into the yard and noting that he was very wet, Mr. Mabra immediately started for the creek. The pup had made a run for the creek and at a point where it led Mr. Mabra waded in and found the body of the little girl. Funeral services were held from the Baptist church Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Z. E. Twitty of Cheyenne officiating and were very largely attended. Interment was in the Doxey-Sayre cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Mabra are old residents of this city and a large circle of friends will join the Headlight in extending their sincere sympathy in their hour of bereavement.
