(28 Nov 1906, Wednesday, Elk City Record, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): George H. Medley Living Only a Few Hours from Discharged Gun The fifteen year old son of G. W. Medley, living north of town about four miles, was accidently killed on Monday evening. It is reported that a loaded gun was standing by the side of a plow and the boy took hold of the barrel near the muzzle, pulling it towards him, when the hammer struck the plow, discharging it and the load entered under the right arm, causing his death in about three hours, but knew no one after the shooting. Medical attendance was called but of no avail. George was a promising youth and expressions of sympathy are every where heard for his aged parent, who is one of the most respected residents of our community. The funeral was held at Grand View school house on Tuesday at 3 p.m. The sermon was preached by Rev. D. J. M. Wood, of the M. E. church, from the text "Be ye also ready for in such an hour as ye think not," to a large and appreciative audience, after which he was laid to rest in the cemetery nearby. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
