W. C. Moran received a telegram Saturday night last informing that his son, John Moran, had been killed by a train at North Platte, Nebraska, some time Saturday afternoon. Henry Moran, a brother, left on Sunday, for North Platte, and wired back Monday that the funeral would be held on Tuesday, with interment at that place. John Moran was in the real estate and insurance business in this city for a number of years, being in the employ of Scott & Gum, and later entering into a partnership with W. L. Hill, under the firm name of Hill & Moran. About eight years ago he left here, and for some time was in Arkansas, but about four years ago, located at North Platte, Nebraska, where he has since been in the employ of a railroad. No particulars of the accident have been received here as yet. (4 May 1922, Thursday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Mention was made last week of the death of John Moran, at North Platte, Nebraska, but at that time no details of the accident were at hand. Henry Moran, who went there for the funeral, returned home on Saturday last. It seems that John had been in the employ of the Union Pacific railroad for a number of years, and that at the time of his death was a freight conductor. At Paxton, Nebraska, on April 22, which was also his 38th birthday, he fell from the top of a freight car and the train passed over his body, death being instantaneous. No one was close at hand, and just how he came to fall is not known. The funeral services were held at North Platte, where his home had been for a number of years, on Tuesday afternoon of last week, and were conducted by the Masonic fraternity of which he was a member, having joined that order when a resident of this city. He is survived by a wife and children, who will continue to reside at North Platte. Both Mr. and Mrs. Moran were former residents of Sayre where they were married some eleven years ago, and a large circle of friends will extend their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
