(28 Jul 1925, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): John R. Music, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Music, living two miles east and one south of Elk City, lost his life Monday July 27th at the fair grounds near Elk City, when the horse he was riding lunged, throwing him against a cement platform, dislocating both hips, crushing several ribs which punctured a lung. The accident was witnessed by his father, mother and brother, as well as several others. According to the best information we can get John was developing a new race horse for the relay races at the fair this fall. For a number of years he has won the relays and had made quite a reputation for himself. It seems that just as he approached the platform his horse shied and reared throwing him to the ground, his body striking the side of the platform. Help was at his side immediately and he was placed in a car and rushed to the hospital where he died a few minutes later without regaining consciousness. The funeral was held from the home July 27th, conducted by Rev. Adams of the Broadway Methodist church and interment was made in the Ural cemetery. The parents and other relatives have the heartfelt sympathy of all in the sad bereavement. (30 Jul 1925, Southwest Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): JOHN MUSIC KILLED A sad accident happened at the Fair Grounds last Monday, when John Music was thrown from a horse, which he was training for the races here this fall. John and his parents and a brother who live southeast of Elk City three miles, were at the Fair Grounds track to try out a new steed, with which John intended to win the money this fall at the big Beckham County Fair races. When near the concrete platform in front of the grandstand, the horse shied, throwing John against it in such a way as to break his neck and severely injuring him otherwise. He never regained consciousness and was rushed to the Tisdal Hospital where he died, shortly. John was twenty-four years old and enjoyed a wide circle of friends, relatives and loved ones in this vicinity. His funeral was held at the home Tuesday afternoon and interment was at the Ural cemetery. Rev. Adams officiated. (6 Aug 1925, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): JOHN R. MUSIC Mr. John R. Music, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Music of Elk City, passed from this life July 27, 1925. He was born July 26, 1901 in Floyd County, Ky. When only two years old the family moved to Oklahoma and it was in this immediate community he grew to manhood. John R., as everyone called him, was a young man of the highest type. The kind that goes to make good citizenship. He had a wide acquaintance in and around Elk City and all loved and respected him. He mixed easily with strangers and they soon became his friends. John R. was converted to the christian religion at the Hefner church in August 1916. At his funeral friends sang his favorite songs, "I'll Be Satisfied Then," and "When They Ring Those Golden Bells for You and Me." It was hard to give him up so young in this life but Heaven is dearer to us since he is there. Floral offerings were tendered by the Eastern Star of Elk City, Mr. and Mrs. Norton of Oklahoma City, Beatrice Creamery of Oklahoma City and many others. John R. leaves a father, mother, two brothers, two sisters, loved ones and a legion of friends. Pall bearers were Clifford Mitchell, Milbourn Lindsey, Clarence Fenter, Cecil Lindsey, Audrain Barnhill and Coyle Lindsey.
