All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ********************************************************************* MYERS, FOREST "SHORTY" (27 Dec 1929, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): MAN DROWNS IN SHALLOW WELL ERICK, Dec. 27 - Funeral services for S. F. Myers, 62, who drowned in a shallow well at his home 22 miles northwest of Erick on Christmas eve, are being delayed pending word received from his brother in Oklahoma City. Mr. Myers had gone to the well to draw some water and losing his balance, fell in head first. The hole was only two feet in diameter which prevented him from turning and freeing himself. There was three feet of water in the well. (2 Jan 1930, Thursday, Erick Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): F. S. (Shorty) Myers, 62, was drowned accidently Christmas Eve day, at his home northwest of Erick in the Meridian community. He had gone to the well for water and in leaning over to make a dip with a bucket, is presumed to have lost his balance falling head-long into the narrow shallow well, three feet deep, holding one foot of water. Unable to extricate himself. Myers body was found some hours later by passers-by. He is survived by several brothers and sisters, scattered throughout Oklahoma and Kansas and a nephew, H. L. Albin of Sweetwater. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Meridian followed by interment in Mulberry cemetery, near Sweetwater (Roger Mills County).
