All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ NICHOLS, GEORGE VALENTINE (11 Oct 1928, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): George Valentine Nichols, aged 21, was killed Saturday night at 8:30 when the car that he was driving on Highway 41 ran into an open bridge. The boy failed to see a warning to motorists which was posted on the highway. The brakes on the roadster which he was driving did not work and the car was overturned. Two companions who were riding with Nichols did not receive serious injuries. Otis Sharp, one of the occupants of the car, received cuts about the face and was taken to a local hospital where he stayed until Monday. The other person in the car, who was the son of George Hanks, was not injured. An ambulance was rushed to the scene of the accident but the boy died about ten minutes after the wreck, before the ambulance arrived. The car which Nichols was driving, was badly damaged. Nichols was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nichols who live west of Elk City about twelve miles. He assisted his father in farming. Funeral services were held at Grubitz & Son chapel Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock p.m. Interment was made at Fairlawn cemetery. Rev. John A.
