G. Minor family; Mrs. Minor being a daughter of Mrs. Plunkett, and also her son, F. A. Plunkett who reside in Erick. Last Monday at about 4 p.m. in company with a number of friends, young Plunkett went swimming in Turkey Creek near Hext Switch. From reports the boys had been racing each other back and forth across the stream, which is about twenty feet deep, when of a sudden Plunkett threw his arms around one of the Seaney boys and disappeared. The Seaney boy managed to break his grip and came to the surface calling for help. The other boys went to Seaneys assistance and succeed in dragging him out. Clyde Plunkett never came to the surface and the boys immediately began to dive for him but were unable to locate his body. In the meantime word was sent to Sayre for assistance but all efforts at diving proved a failure, and a drag was made. After the body had laid in the water for one and one-half hours, it was recovered. The remains of Clyde Plunkett were brought to Erick on Tuesday and funeral services were conducted at the home of his sister, Mrs. T. G. Minor, who lives about one-half mile east of Erick. The remains were laid to rest in the Erick Cemetery. The Democrat extends its sympathy to the bereaved relatives and friends, in this sad hour. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
