(4 Jan 1912, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Accidental Shooting. Bob Ragsdale, 17 year old son of Frank Ragsdale, of Sweetwater, was accidentally shot last Friday by Wesley Meeks, and died from the effects of his wound Monday night. The Meeks boy was in the act of crossing a fence when a pistol he carried in his hip pocket was accidentally discharged, the bullet lodging in the body of Ragsdale. The deceased was buried Tuesday at the German church in the vicinity at Sweetwater. (Salem Cemetery). (5 Jan 1912, Friday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Sorrowful Accident at Sweetwater. Last Friday as young Robert, the 18 year old son of Frank Ragsdale, was out with several boys and girls chasing rabbits a 45 cal. Colts revolver was snapped several times in fun. The young man doing it, did not think it was loaded but snapped it once too often and Frank (sic) was struck in the hip by the 45 cal. bullet and the bone shattered so badly he died from the effects of the wound Monday last. Frank (sic) was an only son and it is to be hoped this lesson of "didn't know it was loaded' may prove of value to some one hereafter to make up the loss to the parents. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
