Rowan, of Kealton, Texas, 20 miles northwest of Texola, is dead the result of a car accident north of Texola late Tuesday night. Rowan, in company with another man whose name was not learned, was enroute home in a motor truck, loaded with coal, purchased in Texola. At a point a few miles North of Texola the truck careened to the side of the road close to a steep embankment. Rowan attempted to push the truck from the rear and as he did so the car suddenly lunged backward catching him between the truck and the embankment crushing out his life instantly. The body is being held here by D. G. Fatheree, undertaker, pending advice for final disposition. (5 Dec 1929, Thursday, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Jim Rowes (sic), Kelton, Texas Farmer, Is Victim Of Own Truck While Attempting To Push TEXOLA - (Special) - Jim Rowes, of Kelton, Texas, died in the Erick hospital an hour after receiving injuries as truck loaded with coal slid on him two miles west of Texola Monday night. Rowes was dead before medical aid could be rendered. Rowes, with a companion was in Texola Monday evening after a load of coal. On their return trip home the truck skidded into a ditch and it was while Rowes with another passerby were pushing against the truck that he was crushed between the loaded vehicle and an embankment. Rowan, 40, killed in a car accident near Texola, last week, was shipped Friday to Donie, Texas, by D. G. Fatheree, undertaker, for burial, accompanied by G. W.
