(5 Jul 1928, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): John Russell See Father Fall From Cultivator on Farm. M. T. A. Russell, age 68 years, was killed instantly at 8 a.m. Saturday when lightning struck him while he was cultivating his crop three miles north and one mile west of Altus. His son, John Russell, who was on the porch about 100 yards from him saw his father fall from the cultivator and the team fall to the ground. When the son reached Russell he was dead. One of the mules working at the cultivator was also killed by the lightning. Dr. C. G. Spears was summoned immediately, but expressed his belief that Russell was killed instantly. Funeral Sunday Funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the Baptist church Sunday with Reverend H. H. Burton officiating. Interment will be at the Blair Cemetery. Russell has been living in Jackson county since 1908 moving here from Bedford county, Tennessee. For the past several years he has been living on the farm four miles northwest of Altus. Survivors Named He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sallie Russell, and by seven sons and daughters, Mrs. Era O'Neal, Mrs. Pearl Earnheart, W. M. Russell, John Russell, Mrs. Cora Bussy and Mrs. Lola Parsons of near Altus and Mrs. Lucille Williams of the Friendship community, and by one brother, W. D. Russell, of northeast of Altus. Very little rain accompanied the electrical storm which lasted for about one hour early Saturday morning, west and north of Altus. The above account was taken from the Altus Times Democrat for July 1st. Mr. Russell is an uncle of Mrs. A. R. Medaris of this city. He is an only brother of her father, W. M.
