P. or OSCAR (27 Jan 1911, Friday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK) Thursday morning at about 5 o'clock as the train was making up for the eastbound freight, an accident occurred that brought to end a useful human life. Just how the accident occurred seems hard to locate. It is supposed that Mr. Scott must have lost his balance in passing from one car to the other, and fell to the ground. The wheels passed over his head and cut off one arm, death being instantaneous. Mr. Scott has been a resident of Sayre about two months coming here with his family, consisting of a wife and 3 children, from W. Va., to which location his remains will be forwarded. This is a hard blow to the family and shows us how truly "in the midst of life we are in death." (2 Feb 1911, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): SWITCHMAN KILLED AT SAYRE Oscar Scott, a switchman on the yards at Sayre, was instantly killed at that place last Thursday by the cars passing over his body. He was in the act of jumping from one car to another when his foot slipped and he fell between the cars head first, and his body dismembered. He lived at Sayre and leaves a wife and two small children. (3 Feb 1911, Friday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Chas. Baumstark accompanied the remains of J. P. Scott, as far as Oklahoma City. Mr. Scott was killed in the Rock Island yards last Thursday morning and his wife and family left for their former home in Hinton, W. Va., last Saturday, under the care of Mr. Baumstark. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
