(25 Sep 1924, Thursday, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): COUSIN IN ACCIDENT E. W. Sheets of Clinton, cousin of "Shorty" Sheets of Elk City died at the Clinton hospital Tuesday from injuries received when his automobile was struck by the C.O. and W. train at crossing near Stafford. His companions, two boys who had won free trips to the State Fair and were on their way to Oklahoma City, were killed instantly. Sheets was taking them to Clinton where they would take the train. The boys who lived near Stafford were both members of Agricultural Clubs. Sheets suffered concussion of the brain and fractures which caused his death. (9 Oct 1924, Thursday, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): LAST ACCIDENT VICTIM IS LAID TO REST AT STAFFORD (Butler Herald): Euel Sheets, driver of the ill-fated auto which collided with the motor-car in the dangerous cut near Stafford, passed away at the Clinton hospital without regaining consciousness. He is the third and last victim of this deplorable accident and the remains were laid to rest in the Stafford cemetery (Custer County) Friday with appropriate funeral services. The Foss Enterprise in its issue of September 25th contained the following concerning the deceased: "Euel W. Sheets is survived by widow who was formerly Miss Ethel Jones of Leedey, to whom he was married three years ago; his parents Rev. and Mrs. O. E. Sheets, of the Stafford community; three brothers, Elmo, Easton and Roy; and three sisters, Mrs. E. I. Emerson of Cloud Chief, Ruby and Venna. He was a veteran of the world war and served overseas. Lately he has been farming eight and one-half miles northeast of Foss."
