(5 May 1921, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): MRS. JAKE SIMONS COMMITS SUICIDE Mrs. Jake Simons of near Canute, committed suicide yesterday, by taking a halter rein and hanging herself. She told her children she was going up stairs to sleep. After a time one of the little ones went up to the room and reported that mama was sleeping standing up, and on investigation they found her dead. She had been ill for some time, and it is supposed in a time when her mind was weak from suffering she committed the deed. She was 41 years of age and leaves a husband and seven children. Funeral services will be held at Scheidel (Washita County) when relatives arrive from Iowa. (6 May 1921, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): MRS. KATE SIMON (sic) DIES IN CANUTE Mrs. Kate Simon, wife of Jake Simon, of near Carter, committed suicide Wednesday morning, the act being caused by the ill health the deceased had been in for some months. Besides her husband she leaves seven children, ranging in age from sixteen months to nineteen years, also aged parents and five brothers and sisters, besides a host of relatives and friends.
