(2 Feb 1922, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK):
BOY ACCIDENTALLY HANGS SELF
With Rope Around Neck, Foot Slipped, Killing Him.
A sad accident occurred at the home of T. J. Simpson, near Berlin, on
Saturday last, by which a son of Mr. and Mrs. Simpson lost his life.
It seems that there is a large barn on the farm and that a number of boys
were playing in the loft of the barn.  A rope was slipped over the young
man's neck, some reports say by himself and other reports by one of his
playmates.  At any rate, there was a rope over his neck with the other end
fastened in the loft, when his foot slipped and he fell, tightening the
noose around his neck, and killing him almost instantly, the neck being
broken.  From all reports there are no features about the affair which
make it possible to construe it in any other manner than as the most
deplorable accident.
Funeral services were held from the Berlin church (Roger Mills County) on
Sunday afternoon last, and very largely attended by neighbors and friends,
who are extending their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.
