E. Easley, who has resided here up to two months ago when he moved to Amarillo, was seriously injured. While the particulars of the wreck are still very meagre, it seems that while some miles east of Tucumcari, New Mexico, the train ran into a heavy rain storm. Mr. Easley was engineer and Singleton, the fireman. The rain washed down a grade, washing out the ballast from under the rails, and the locomotive rolled over when it struck it, instantly killing Singleton, and seriously injuring Easley. Just what are the nature of Mr. Easley's injuries has not yet been learned, but the assurance comes through railroad wires that they are not likely to prove fatal. The body of young Singleton will be brought to this city this evening for burial, but the hour of the funeral has not yet been announced. Marshall Singleton was a young man very highly esteemed in this city, where he has been reared, and was the support of a widowed mother. The young man has been in the employ of the railroad company for some years and was making rapid progress, and very highly esteemed by his associates, who recognized in him many characteristics of sterling worth. The sympathy of the entire city goes out to the bereaved mother in her hour of trial. It is understood, although not verified, that Singleton had $1000 accident insurance. (11 Aug 1910, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Word was received in Erick Wednesday stating that Marshal Singleton, an Erick boy, who was employed as fireman by the Rock Island Railroad Co., had met his death in a wreck west of Amarillo, caused by a washout. (12 Aug 1910, Sayre Citizen, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): A wreck occurred on the Rock Island, east of Tucumcari, New Mexico, during the latter hours Tuesday night which resulted in the death of Marshall Singleton, who grew to manhood in this city, and serious injury to P. E. Easley, who was until recently a citizen of this city. The train was enroute from Amarillo to Tucumcari with Easley at the throttle and young Singleton firing. A heavy rain storm was encountered and in crossing a big fill which had become thoroughly saturated the grade gave way and the engine and tender toppled over, pinioning Singleton beneath the tender.
