(16 Sep 1908, Wednesday, Elk City Record, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK):
MAN FROM CLINTON DROPPED DEAD SUNDAY AT STORY HOTEL
Albert Smith, a resident of Clinton, was taken ill very suddenly at the
Story Hotel in this city Sunday and fell to the floor.  Some men who were
in the hotel helped him to his feet and were removing his outer clothing
that he might be put to bed when he told them to let him lie down; he died
instantly.
Mr. Smith formerly kept a pool hall in Clinton.  His mother came in Sunday
afternoon to accompany the body back to Clinton for burial.
He had been drinking and it is thought that this brought about his death
as he had twice before this had spells similar to this one.

Dropped Dead.
Another Victim of Prohibition Whiskey.
E. V. Smith, of Clinton, came to Elk City last week, to sober up.  He
stopped at the Hotel Story Friday and Saturday.
He was unable to hold any liquid on his stomache (sic), and Dr. Jones gave
him hypodermic injections; but it gave him no strength.  In fact the
lining of his stomache was gone.
Servants helped him dress on Sunday morning, as he intended taking the
early train for Clinton.  While his necktie was being arranged, he dropped
dead.
His mother was notified and came on the next train, and had his body
embalmed and shipped to Clinton Sunday night.
There has been five persons die in this and adjoining counties since
prohibition.  At this rate the State will soon need an inebriate asylum.
