All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ SPANGLER, RAY MILTON (14 Jun 1923, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): BOY DIES FROM EFFECTS OF FALL News was received Thursday of the death of Ray Spangler, nineteen year old son of Milt Spanger of near Canute, when he was injured from falling from his horse Friday. Young Spangler, according to Dr. J. A. Jester, who attended him, had been to Canute and was riding home on his horse. When it began to rain he quickened his pace and stopped into the yard of Frank Mall. The horse slipped and fell and Spangler's head hit the hard clay causing concussion of the brain. He was knocked unconscious and the last time Dr. Jester was to see him, Monday afternoon, he had not regained consciousness. The funeral service will be held at Canute (Washita County) at four o'clock this afternoon. (21 Jun 1923, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): OBITUARY Ray Milton Spangler, son of Milton and Alta Spangler, was born June 11, 1904, in Washita county, Okla., on what is known as the Priebe farm, southeast of Elk City. Departed this life June 13, 1923, after a short illness of five days, aged 19 years and 2 days. He was converted in a Baptist meeting held in Canute, Okla., in March, 1918, and united with the Free Methodist Church, and continued faithful until his death. He was a devoted christian, a sincere friend and all who knew him learned to love him. He was a graduate of Clinton High School being third in highest honors, and was first in mathmetics, physics and manual training. Funeral services were held in the church at Canute on June 14th, where a large crowd gathered to show the respect of the neighborhood for this splendid young man whom everyone knew lived the true life. Many beautiful offerings were placed in and around the casket. The services were conducted by Rev. A. R. Martin of Geary, Okla., assisted by Rev. W. S. Vanderhoofen. The pall bearers were Wm. Johnson, Shelby Hays, Curtis Noble, Frank Hellums, Ralph Wilcox. Interment was made in Canute cemetery in charge of Grubitz and Son. Ray leaves to mourn their loss, his father, mother, one brother, one sister and many relatives and a host of friends.
