All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ SPROWLS, FEMALE (17 May 1906, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): A sad accident occurred last Sunday on the road between this city and Cheyenne. Mrs. Hardin whose home is in this city, accompanied by her aunt, Mrs. Sprowls, were enroute to Cheyenne, and while going down a steep hill at Wildcat creek, the harness broke and the horse becoming unmanageable started to run off. The buggy was overturned and the occupants were thrown out. Mrs. Sprawls (sic) being dragged quite a distance. The ladies were picked up and carried to the home of Nelson Reed, close to the scene of the accident and medical aid was immediately summoned, but Mrs. Sprowls died of her injuries in about two hours after being taken to the house. Mrs. Hardin's injuries consist of a broken (no word) and other injuries, which leaves her in a critical condition. (18 May 1906 Cheyenne Newspaper, Cheyenne, Roger Mills Co, OK): Fatal Accident Last Sunday afternoon Mrs. Mark Hardin, and Mrs. Sprawl started from a few miles east of Cheyenne to go to Elk City. While going down the hill approaching the bridge across Sandstone creek the back strap broke and the buggy ran onto the horse, causing it to run. Mrs. Sprawl jumped out and fell on her head killing her almost instantly. Mrs. Hardin was thrown out farther on, and received severe injuries. Mrs. Sprawl will be remembered as the widow Haulman, and was about 40 years old.
