M. Terrell, residing north of Doxey, was fatally burned Friday afternoon of last week. While burning rubbish in the barnyard the barn caught on fire, and in attempting to extinguish the flames her clothing caught fire. Her son who was working in a field near by, ran to the house when he saw the burning barn, and later found his mother near the creek which she had evidently attempted to reach to extinguish the flames from her clothing. A physician was immediately summoned, but her body was so badly burned that death came to her relief Saturday morning. Funeral services were held from the home Saturday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the Doxey-Sayre cemetery. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
