(24 Oct 1907, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Despondent because of financial trouble, J. A. Towry committed suicide Thursday, October 17, by blowing out his brains with a shotgun. The tragedy occurred four miles southeast of Sayre, on the C. W. Plumlee farm, which Towry had traded for recently. He is reported to have been worried about financial troubles, and to have been dissatisfied with the trade he had made. He came to the place about two weeks ago from Texas, where he had traded a farm for the Plumlee place. Mr. Towry was 33 years old. His neighbors say that he had been in an asylum about ten years ago, and that his mind was easily unbalanced. He was married, but had no children. Officers from Mangum (Greer County) held an inquest and returned a verdict in accordance with the facts above stated. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
