(9 Aug 1923, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): The entire city was shocked Tuesday evening by word that Mrs. W. B. Tucker had been run down and killed by an auto, near her home, on Third street. The details of the accident are hard to ascertain, owing to conflicting stories by those who should know something about the affair. It is a case of where a number saw it, yet differ very widely in their way of seeing it. The only thing that seems certain is that Mrs. Tucker had crossed Third street to purchase garden truck from an auto which stood in front of the residence of Garth Hammon, and was struck by a car from the south, and thrown to the payment, sustaining injuries from which she died a few hours later. Funeral services for Mrs. Tucker will be held at the Christian church of which she was a member, at 2 o'clock this afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. H. Gibble. Mrs. Tucker was a lady very highly esteemed by all who knew her, and her sudden death has shocked the entire city, while every citizen and her old neighbors north of Sayre, will join in extending their sympathy to the bereaved family.
