(1874-1929) WALLACE, ROBERT (1872-1929) (8 Aug 1929, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wallace, pioneer citizens of Leedey, died of injuries in a local hospital this week, following an accident when a Katy train plowed into their car last Wednesday. Both were rushed to Elk City immediately after the accident where every possible aid was given, but their condition was such that medical science was of no avail. Mr. Wallace received the most serious injuries and passed away about six o'clock Thursday evening, his wife following him in death Sunday. Funeral services were conducted from the Grubitz & Son Mortuary Tuesday afternoon and interment made in the Leedey cemetery (Dewey County). The Wallaces were returning from a vacation spent in Colorado after spending the night with their daughter in Hammon. The crossing is extremely dangerous and the car was almost on the track when the train was first seen. Their children, seven in number were in Leedey for the funeral of their parents. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
