(31 Dec 1908, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Accidently shot - Ira Wright, residing at Port, was accidently shot and quite seriously injured Friday last. The weapon was a 22-long calibre rifle. The bullet struck him in the right side and ranged downward, passing into the abdominal cavity. Drs. Baker of Port and Harris of Sentinel, brought young Wright to Elk City, where he was placed in the Elk City Hospital. An X-ray examination failed to show the location of the bullet, and an operation was performed by Drs. Standifer and Tedrowe. As yet, the bullet has not been located. During the operation young Wright complained of severe pains in lower right side near the abdomen. Upon examination, the surgeons found a vermiform appendix in a very bad condition, and removed it. He stood the operation nicely, and is now on a fair road to recovery. (7 Jan 1909, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Ira J.
