(15 Nov 1960, Tuesday, Elk City Daily News, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Capps Feted With 50th Anniversary Dinner Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Capps of Carter, were honored with a fiftieth anniversary celebration at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Embrey McCall, in Amarillo, Tex., on October 29. At an early age Mrs. Capps, the former Florence Helton, moved with her family from Tennessee to Plains, N. M., where she resided until her marriage to Willie D. Capps in 1910. Except for two years spent in New Mexico, Mr. Capps has lived in Western Oklahoma within ten miles of the family homestead ever since he and his family moved to the Indian Territory in 1897. The trip from Kentucky to their new home was made in a covered wagon, and took about nine weeks. The family settled 4 1/2 miles west of the small Port store where they received their mail and bought groceries. Members of his wife's family present at the dinner were Mrs. Capps' three sisters, Mrs. S. Shewbert of Dalhart, Tex., Mrs. H. B. Owen, Tucumcari, N. M.; Mrs. C. B. Brown, Albuquerque, N. M. One of Mr. Capps' sisters was in attendance, Mrs. W. C. Allmon, Tecumseh, Neb.; two sisters, Mrs. Jennetta Rhoads, San Jose, Calif., and Mrs. S. S. Smith, Elk City, were unable to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Capps have one grandson, Don C.
