(24 Apr 1924, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): MARRIED 50 YEARS Fifty years ago the 21st of April, J. T. Gregory and his wife were married in Clark County, Mo. The event was celebrated here Monday by their children, among them being Mr. and Mrs. Andrew McKee, of Oklahoma City; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Day, of El Reno; Mrs. Maude Palmer and family, Mrs. Minnie Gross, of Beaver; Mrs. Lillie Crites of Strong City; James Gregory and granddaughter Lulia Thomas. A big dinner was prepared for the occasion and everything one could imagine was on that table, to which all did justice and they had a most happy time. Mr. Gregory was born the 26th of July, 1849, in West Virginia and Mrs. Gregory was born in Decatur County, Iowa, August 27, 1856. Though Mr. Gregory is in his 75th year he looks many years younger and tended six acres of cotton last year at his home. He is full of life and when we asked the secret he answered it was the sunlight of Jesus in his soul, that His sun shines 365 days in the year. He remarked that it just did not seem more than ten or fifteen years since they were married and it was hard to realize that fifty years had gone by, and from his conversation we know the bride he took at the time is still his "sweetheart." They have eighteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. May they live to enjoy many more anniversaries together is the wish of the News Democrat family. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
