(8 Apr 1948, Thursday, Sayre Sun, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Texola Couple Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary Sunday, March 28, marked a half century of wedded bliss for two of Texola's most beloved citizens, Dr. and Mrs. A. S. Howard, when Open house was held in their home from 2 to 6 p.m. Entertainment for the afternoon was furnished by Mrs. Carl Chandoin, Betty Joyce and Suzanne Seeds, also Patsy and Barbara Howard. Mrs. Chandoin played vocal and violin selections, Suzanne Seeds gave Violin music accompanied by her sister, Betty Joyce at the piano. Mrs. Fred Woodall and Mrs. Ruby Muns served the guests cake and punch. The dining table was adorned with a beautiful 3-tiered wedding cake topped by a gold wreath bearing the figure 50. Dr. Howard was granted his degree at Little Rock, Arkansas, and came to Ringling, Oklahoma, and set up practice in 1896 where he became the physician of the Smith family and on one of his calls met Mrs. Bonnie Mae Smith. One and a half years later on March 28, 1896, she became his bride. The couple came to Miami, Texas, soon after they married and came to Texola in 1902 where they have resided since. Dr. Howard opened the first drug store in Texola in 1902 and operated it in addition to keeping up his doctor's practice. He sold the store in 1922 and retired to his farming and handling property around the city. He recently retired from all business. He is a charter member of the Texola Masonic Lodge and Mrs. Howard is a charter member of Texola Eastern Star. Children present to help celebrate their golden wedding anniversary were: Don Howard, 700 Florida St., Amarillo; W. S. Howard, Borger, Texas; Mrs. Nona Seeds, Amarillo; Mrs. Lola Chandoin, Norman; Mrs. Novella Douglas, Oklahoma City; and Mrs. Okla.
