(6 Jan 1948, Tuesday, Elk City Daily News, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): 60th Anniversary Is Celebrated By Mr. and Mrs. Hughes Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Hughes, long time residents of Elk City, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Hughes were married January 4, 1888, at Duneith, N. D., seven miles south of the Canadian border. They homesteaded north of Leedey in 1902 and came to Elk City in September, 1907. Mr. Hughes is a pioneer monument dealer in this area, and for many years had the Elk City Monument Co., selling in 1940 to his grandson, W. F. Palmeter. Mr. and Mrs. Hughes had two children, one of whom survives. She is their daughter, Mrs. J. W. Bradley of Elk City. A son, Freddie Hughes, died in childhood. Honoring the long-wedded couple was a dinner at the Grill Sunday noon at which four generations were present. These included Mr. and Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. J. W. Bradley, W. F. Palmeter, Mrs. Bradley's son, and his children, Laurena, Frances, Loretta, Sharon and Billy Joe. Mr. Bradley and Mrs. Palmeter also attended the family dinner. The Hughes are making their home at 216 N.
