(2 Jan 1936, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Golden Anniversary Is Celebrated Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Maberry celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary Monday with a dinner in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Thurmond. Miss Amalda Jean Thurmond also was honored as Monday was her birthday. A three-tier wedding cake and a birthday cake centered the dinner table. (23 May 1929, Thursday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): J. A. Maberry Coming to this part of Oklahoma before Sayre was begun, J. A. Maberry, manager of the W. P. Seawell lumber company, filed on a farm six miles north of the site of the city. He started the W. P. Seawell lumber company's yard in Sayre. It is the first lumber yard to be constructed in the city. Maberry has been working with the same company for 27 years. He moved to Oklahoma from the northwest part of Arkansas, stopping first in Tecumseh in 1892. In 1897 he moved to Enid. From there he filed on the farm north of the present site of Sayre. Maberry is married and has three children. His girl is married and living in Sayre. One of the boys is graduating from a law school in Dallas, Tex., this spring.
