All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ ANNIVERSARY: MARTIN, BURTON E. & WIFE: (24 Feb 1949, Thursday, Sayre Sun, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Mr. and Mrs. Burton E. Martin, Mayfield, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, February 13, with open house for their friends at their home from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with their daughters, Mrs. Everett Hartpence and Mrs. D. H. Hartpence as hostesses. Mr. and Mrs. Martin were married at West Liberty, Iowa, February 14, 1899. They homesteaded in western Oklahoma near Mayfield in 1900 where they now reside. From 1903 to 1913 Mr. Martin was employed with the Rock Island Railroad serving as Sayre express agent from 1911 to 1913. Always active in community affairs, he has served as president of the school board of the Mayfield Consolidated School. Mrs. Martin is a member of the H.D.C. at Mayfield. Their three children are Mrs. Everett Hartpence, Sayre; Mrs. D. H. Hartpence, Sayre; and John B. Martin, deceased. They have six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The lace covered refreshment table was centered with a bouquet of white carnations and snapdragons and gold fern banked before six lighted gold tapers. Golden wedding bells clustered at the arrangements base and gold leaf clusters encircled the lace cloth. A white tiered brides cake topped with the traditional miniature bride and groom graced the end of the table. Presiding at the punchbowl during the afternoon were Mrs. E. Wayne Hartpence, Sayre, Mrs. Gene Hartpence, Oklahoma City, and Miss Oleta King, Mayfield, Mrs. Lawrence King, Mayfield assisted with the serving. Floral arrangements of white tulips and yellow jonquils and acsia enlivened the rooms. Miss Phyllis Kent, Delhi, presided at the guest book. Mrs. Otis Young, Erick, had charge of the display of gifts.
