On last Tuesday MR. AND MRS. J. D. WATSON celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home in South Erick. They "had been married fifty years" as Mr. Watson laughingly said, " and no divorce." They were married in Grinette county, Georgia, February 1, 1877. After the wedding Mr. And Mrs. Watson lived in the community in which the ceremony took place for a few years. Later they moved to Hill county, Texas, where they resided until in the year of 1907 they came to Oklahoma, settling near Erick on the Hartman farm which they purchased and still own. Ten children were born to this union, five of whom are living, Mrs. Sallie Lynch, Carnegie; Daniel Watson, Irene, Texas; Mrs. Pearl Hendrix, Mangum; Mrs. Annie Barnard and Lee Watson, west of town. There are fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mr. Watson was born in Watson county, Georgia on September 31, 1856. Mrs. Watson before her marriage was Miss Nancy Gower and was born on August 10, 1856. Mr. Watson is in good health and is downtown every day. Mrs. Watson is able with the assistance of her husband to do all her housework. Mr. And Mrs. Watson have worked hard, been frugal and are financial independent in their declining years. Both joined the Primitive Baptist church in their early married life and been constant members in that faith since then.
