McArthur of Carter and Miss Edna Hix who lives the Ural community were married here Wednesday afternoon at the home of Rev. M. T. Allen, pastor of the M. E. church, South, he performing the ceremony. Baldwin of McCombs, Oklahoma, and Miss Monta M. Todd, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. E. M. Todd, of Erick, were married last Sunday at the home of Dr. and Mrs. G. W. Lyle, Wednesday evening said the words which united in holy wedlock, Mr. John R. Willowby of this city and Miss Mattie Vitato of Jester. The ceremony was performed in the presence of only a few at the Lyle home. But these popular young people have many friends who wish them much happiness in their new relation. Fields of Riverside, California, and Miss Iris Boyd Bell of Elk City, were married at the home of the bride's father, H. B. Bell on Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock, Rev. M. T. Allen, officiating. Only relatives and a few friends were present. After the ceremony congratulations were extended and refreshments served. About this time thirty-five young ladies and gentlemen met at the home of Miss Lota Mosley and went to the home where the wedding had taken place, taking possession of the bride and groom, marching them around for a "moonlight" stroll, afterwards stopping at the home of Mrs. W. Markham, where a happy time was enjoyed for two hours, later accompanying the happy young couple back home. The groom was formerly a resident here, and is well and favorably known, has exceptional business qualifications and holds a splendid situation in his home town. He is a most honorable young man, with good habits and is to be congratulated in securing such an accomplished young lady for a companion. She is most lovable and admired for her goodness and intelligence. The members of the S. W. C. Class, are glad for Iris in her new happiness, but grieved that she will have to leave them. She has always been so faithful in her church work, ever willing to do the tasks assigned her, always the one looked up to in the special spiritual work of the class, and never failed them. They will miss her so much, and their good wishes go with her and in this all the people of Elk City join them, for she has lived here most of her life, is known to almost everyone and has a large circle of friends, all wish her and her husband a long and happy life together, and that God's richest blessings ever be upon them. They will leave tomorrow for their new home in California and we understand that the S. W. C. girls are going to the depot to bid them goodby. Russell and Miss Bessie Moss, well known young people of Foss, were married here on Sunday afternoon at the home of Justice R. W. Jones, the ceremony being said by that official. After the ceremony they left on the afternoon train for Amarillo, where they will spend a few days before returning to Foss, where they will make their home. Vandine and Miss Ida Music, well known young people who live in a few miles south of the city, were united in marriage, the ceremony being said by R. W. Jones, and on Sunday Jesse D. Miller and Miss Myrtle Vandine were married, the ceremony being said by Justice Jones. They reside in the same community. All are members of well known families in this section and have many friends. (The Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, Ok, 10 May 1917) Married. Miss Stella Cox and Mr. Clyde Owings were married at the home of the bride's parents Sunday at 11 a.m., Elder J. S. Haddock officiating. After the wedding all repaired to the home of Geo. Capps where a bountiful wedding dinner was served. There was a large number present who report it a big happy and joval old fashioned wedding. The young couple is well and favorably known. We wish them a happy married life. (The Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, Ok, 24 May 1917) We have just learned of a marriage, which occurred three weeks ago which will be of interest to many, especially those of the Iowa community where the young lady lived before moving to Sayre about a year and a half ago. Miss Erema Alsup and Mr. Dennis Jones (a soldier boy) of Weatherford were the contracting parties. Mr. Jones has only lately returned from the border and last Thursday received his discharge. He talks of entering the service again when he will go as an officer and his wife accompany him. The good wishes of friends go with them. Bryce in this city Wednesday, Oct. 31, 1917. Bro. Bryce performed the ceremony. This young couple are well and favorably known in this country. We wish them a happy, prosperous married life. (The Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, Ok, 1 Nov 1917) Miss Ona Binion and S. E. Toon were married last Thursday eve, at the Wilson home three miles east of Erick, Rev. S. N. Wilson, who has sent perhaps hundreds of young people "on their way rejoicing", performed the ceremony which made "Sam and Ona" one. Gibson and Miss Bessie Sanders were united in marriage at the home of Rev. N. R. Parks in this city last Sunday, Nov. 18th. These are well known and popular young people. Stubbs and Miss Eva Mae Terrell were united in marriage at the home of the bride's parents, at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 17th, 1918, Rev. T. L. Noblitt officiating. The following outside the Erick relatives were present: Mr. And Mrs. H. C. Garrett, Mr. And Mrs. R. E. Bennett, Miss Clotia Riley, Florence Davis and Miss Margurite Maschek, of this city; Mr. And Mrs. W. J. Ball, Mr. And Mrs. S. L. Ball, of Allenreed, Tex.; Mr. And Mrs. John Hoard of Texola and Mrs. Gus L. Coleman of McAlister, Okla. The bride, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Wm. Terrell is one of Ericks most popular and beloved young ladies, the groom, son of Mr. And Mrs. B. T. Stubbs is one of our most respected young men, now Assistant Cashier of the Erick State Bank. They will make their home in this City. We extend them the best of wishes for a long and happy married life, and we know the Democrat expresses the sentiment of the entire community. (The Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, Ok, 30 May 1918) RILEY - DAVIS Jeff Davis and Leda Riley were quietly wedded in Erick Saturday evening at the M. E. Parsonage by Rev. C. P. Broome. The only witnesses present were Mrs. Broome and T. J. Shorts. The wedding came as a great surprise to their friends and relatives of this place, none seemingly knew of their plans. The newly married couple can not plan a home until after the war is over. Mr. Davis is the son of Mr. And Mrs. J. M. J. Davis who live two miles East of town and is a very industrious and thoroughly reliable young man. The bride is the oldest daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Bud Riley who own and live on the famous Cooke Ranch 7 miles East of Erick. Miss Leda is a graduate of the Erick High School and has also attended the Normal at Weatherford several terms - she taught the school in Burton School District last year. She has a musical education as well and is a very charming young lady in every respect. The many friends of these young people join in hearty good wishes for their future happiness. Nunn of that City, formerly of Erick, to Cullen Lee Simmons of Eleventh Field Artillary (sic) U. S. A. who is the son of Mr. And Mrs. D. W. Simmons of this place. Both the bride and groom are well and favorably known here and have many friends. They were old time sweethearts that had drifted apart but met again at Lawton where the Nunn's had moved and the young man had been transferred from the Mexico border service. He is in the regulars. Elmer Lewis of this city and Miss Florence Flaxman of Oklahoma City were united in marriage in the latter city Monday, and came to Erick Monday night. This young couple are well and favorably known here; the bride is the daughter of P. Flaxman of the Dixie store and the groom is a son of E. A. Lewis of the Lewis Garage, both leading citizens. While this event was somewhat of a surprise to their many friends, it was not unexpected. The Democrat joins their many friends in wishing them a long and happy married life. They will make their home here for the present. MARRIAGE CLIPPINGS - 1919: (The Southwest Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, Ok, 2 Jan 1919) MEEK - WILSON On December 14, 1918, there occurred a pretty little wedding at the home of the bride's parents on Washington street, of Miss Vernice Meek and Mr. Guy Wilson. R. W. Jones tied the knot at seven o'clock in the evening. Mr. Wilson will establish an auto paint shop in Elk City, and we with their many friends wish them many happy and prosperous years in Elk City. Judge Jones reports the marriage of Miss Gertie McCloud, daughter of the big ranchman of Elk City, to Mr. Jesse Weatherly of this city, at his home Dec 21. The couple had postponed the wedding for some time, as Mr. Weatherly expected to be called to the colors at any time. (The Southwest Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, Ok, 2 Jan 1919) RUSSELL - HUBLIT. Rev. W. H. Burton performed the ceremony of uniting Miss Sweet Russell and Mr. W. O. Hublit in marriage at the Baptist parsonage last Sunday night at 7:30. Mr. Hublit, having recently returned from the army camp, has accepted a position as chef at the Fountain Café. (The Southwest Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, Ok, 2 Jan 1919) FOUR HORSE TEAM FOR THE WEDDING. First Soldier to be Married in Elk City Since the War. Last Thursday, during the big snow storm, Chas. W. Lehne and Miss Addie Lusby of Near Berlin decided they would be married while Mr. Lehne was home for Christmas on a ten-day furlough. Thursday morning early they left the home of the bride near Berlin, where her father has a big ranch, for Elk City to secure a license and have the knot tied. When half way here the two big horses they were driving gave out and they had to send for another team. After an all day tussle with the storm they arrived here, and City Clerk J. B. Winn issued their license and Judge Jones was called to the city hall to perform the ceremony. John Taulbee, brother-in-law of the bride, accompanied them here and witnessed the ceremony. Mr. Lehne had to return the next day to Fort Logan, Texas. (The Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, Ok, 2 Jan 1919) Mr. Fred Keys and Miss Montie Cleghorn, both of Sayre, assumed the vows of matrimony on December 29th at the Methodist parsonage. Rev. W. J. MARRIAGE CLIPPINGS - 1920: (The Elk City Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, Ok, 2 Jan 1920) WOODS - WALKER On December 25, 1919, Miss Ruth Woods and Earl Walker were married at the home of R. W. Jones, the Judge officiating. The young people are both of Doxey, and are well known in that vicinity. They will make their home at that place. Jones, the Judge officiating. They will make their home here. (The Elk City Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, Ok, 2 Jan 1920) NISCHWITZ - BASS On Christmas day Miss Daisy Nischwitz and Mr. Andy Bass were married at the home of the bride's parents by Rev. C. Bowles. A number of friends and relatives witnessed the ceremony. (The Elk City Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, Ok, 2 Jan 1920) JOHNSON - JONES Mr. R. C. Jones, who quietly left this city the Saturday before Christmas, for Minneapolis, Minn., to spend the holidays with friends, returned last Monday with a handsome bride, surprising many of his near friends and his parents. He told no person of his intentions, but his father had suspicions and told us so last week. The bride is the daughter of P. Jackson (sic), who is the manager of a large granite quarry at Cold Springs, Okla. Mr. Jones met Miss Johnson last summer while there purchasing a few car loads of granite. She was the guest of his sister and parents here last fall. Her old home is Minneapolis, where she has been the past winter. Miss Elizabeth A. Johnson and Mr. Rufus C. Jones were married on Tuesday of last week, 8 p.m., Dec. 23, at the North Methodist parsonage, Minneapolis, by the pastor. Mr. Jones has arranged for a home on West Third, and at present is living with his parents, Mr. And Mrs. P. C. Jones. The writer extends congratulations, with the many friends of the happy young couple. May this year and those to follow be full of prosperity, health and happiness. Mr. And Mrs. Toney will make their home at Wichita Falls. (The Elk City Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, Ok, 2 Jan 1920) KNIGHT - ALLDREDGE One Christmas wedding that was a surprise to many young people of this city was that of E. O. Alldredge, one of our leading grocery men, and Miss Louie Knight, who formerly lived here and recently moved to Chickasha with her parents, Mr. And Mrs. G. C. Knight. Mr. Alldredge went after his bride the day before Xmas, and they were married at the home of the bride, returning to this place last Saturday. (The Elk City Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, Ok, 16 Jan 1920) MARRIED. Rev. Bowles united in marriage at the Baptist parsonage last Sunday, Jan. 11, at 5:30 p.m., Mr. Cecil E. West, manager of the Elk City Battery Co., and Miss Willie E. Saunders of Mangum. Miss Saunders has lived at Reed and Mangum for many years and has been her father's housekeeper since her mother's death. Her father, J. C. Saunders, was under sheriff of Greer county until recently. He may make his home in Elk City soon. Mr. West recently took charge of the Willard Service Station, coming here from Mangum where he was manager for the Willard people. His old home was Hobart where he has many friends. This happy couple have gone to housekeeping in rooms on South Adams street, which Mr. West had arranged before the wedding. Announcements are out, and they will be at home to their friends after the fifteenth. The couple expected to be married at Hobart last Sunday, but the weather would not permit of driving, so Mr. West brought his intended here to be married. Their many friends at Mangum and Hobart will be happily surprised. Their friends gave them a kitchen shower Monday night at the home of the bride's aunt, Mrs. Marcia Turney. Repass, both of Sweetwater, were united in holy wedlock at the parsonage home of the First M. E. church by the pastor, Rev. O. A. Pankey. Miss Ethel Kennemer of the Taylor community, and Mr. Paul Throckmorton of Carter, were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. And Mr. T. R. Kennemer, Sunday morning, Rev. Waggoner of Carter, officiating. This young couple is well known throughout this part of the country, both having lived here since childhood. The bride is the pretty daughter of Mr. And Mrs. T. R. Kennemer, and has a host of admiring friends, while Paul is the industrious young son of Mr. And Mrs. M. E. Throckmorton of Carter. They will make their home on the Throckmorton farm out northeast of Carter. The Express editor and family joins the many friends of the happy young couple in extending congratulations. (The Elk City Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, Ok, 19 March 1920) DUNN - ROGERS Judge Jones officiated at the wedding of Roy Rogers and Miss Carrie Dunn at the home of the bride, two miles north of town, last Monday at three p.m. The newlyweds left the next morning for their new home at Belleview, Texas. Bowles united in marriage at the Baptist parsonage last Saturday night at seven-thirty Miss Lyda McCune of this city and George Thomas Long also of Elk City. Mr. And Mrs. J. H. Stokes and Irene Middleton were married at the bride's home last Friday evening, 10 o'clock. A big dinner was enjoyed. The couple left for Oklahoma City on No. 44. The bride's sister, Miss Edith, went with them. Mr. Stokes is the new manager of the Elk City Steam Laundry. They will be at home in the Dr. Palmer residence. Trevette united in matrimony Miss Ella Patton of this city and Harrison H. Cavener, of Eldorado, at the home of the bride's parents Mr. And Mrs. J. E. Patton. Miss Patton graduated this year from Elk City High School and is popular among the young folks of the city. She wore a very becoming white georgette wedding gown and a corsage of carnations. Many friends and relatives witnessed ceremony, including Miss Marjorie Mustaine of Eldorado, Mrs. Cunningham of Eldorado, an aunt of the bride, A. H. Moyer and family of Tahoka, Miss Ethel Lowery, Luther Rogers and wife, Mr. And Mrs. Brunson, Mrs. D. C. McGrady and A. G. Steele. (The Elk City Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, Ok, 4 June 1920) MISS SARAH DENNIS TO BE JUNE BRIDE Mrs. Eugene Grubitz and Mrs. Geo. Grubitz gave an announcement party at the home of the former, Tuesday afternoon, for Miss Sarah Dennis, who is to be married on June 15 to Mr. Geo. Davenport, of Sioux City, Iowa. Some 24 intimate friends were present, and a delightful afternoon was passed in playing bridge, and an elaborate luncheon was served. The announcement was made in a very taking and unique manner. Master Grubitz was dressed as Cupid, and came into the room, passing around a basket containing the announcement card. Miss Dennis is one of the most popular and accomplished of the city's younger set, and her wedding promises to be one of the social events of the summer. The mother of the bride-to-be gave a dinner at the Story hotel Thursday night to Miss Dennis' school chums, and Mrs. V. C. Tisdal is giving a miscellaneous reception in her home Friday afternoon. (The Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, Ok, 1 July 1920) BROWN - LANE Mrs. Ada Brown and Mr. Harrison Lane of this city were married in Oklahoma City last Sunday. The bride is well and favorably known here, having been a resident of this city since its beginning. Mr. Lane has been in the barber business here for several months and has many friends in the city. They are spending their honeymoon in Oklahoma City after which they will make their home at Sayre. (The Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, Ok, 1 July 1920) PUCKETT - BOWEN Miss Ethel Puckett, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. C. H. Puckett, and Howard Bowan, son of Mr. And Mrs. B. Bowen, all of this city, were married last Sunday at the home of Miss Puckett. These two young people are known to most everyone in this vicinity and are very popular. They are from two of our most respected families. Mrs. Bowen has been teaching for several years and is a very accomplished lady. Her husband is employed by the Rock Island Railway company at Amarillo where they will make their home. They left Sunday night for that city. The Standard joins their many friends in extending heartiest congratulations to Mr. And Mrs. Bowen. Bowles last Monday at the home of the bride's parents Mr. And Mrs. O. E. Huffman. Raymond Custer was best man, and only a few relatives and close friends were present. Both Mr. And Mrs. Ross have grown up in Elk City, and have a host of friends here who will wish them happiness. Immediately after the wedding they went to their future home on First St., where they found the table laden with groceries and other goodies left by their loving friends. (The Southwest Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, Ok, 2 July 1920) SULLIVAN - BRONSON Miss Vashti Sullivan and Mr. Harvey Bronson were married last Saturday night at 7 o'clock by Rev. C. Bowles at the Baptist parsonage. Miss Sullivan is 19 years old, and graduated from the High School this year. Mr. Bronson is a young business man here, and both have spent the better part of their lives in Elk City and are native Oklahomans. Only a few of the bride's close school friends were present at the wedding, and immediately afterward the happy couple left for a short trip to Mangum. They will make their home here, and have secured temporarily the Hawkins house on Broadway. The Press joins the many friends in this vicinity in wishing them a long and happy married life. (The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, Ok, 16 July 1920) MARRIED. Jake Abernathy got tired of batching and persuaded Miss Ruth Allsup to become his bride Sunday evening. A large crowd was present at the wedding and serenaded he and his bride Sunday night. (The Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, Ok, 22 July 1920) WILLIAMS - GOUGH Miss Rhoda Williams, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. T. J. Williams of this city, was married last Sunday week to W. S. Gough at Oklahoma City. Mr. Gough is traveling mechanic for the Western Newspaper Union. His bride is highly respected in this city by her large circle of friends. She has lived here for several years and is very well and favorably known. (The Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, Ok, 22 July 1920) SILVERS - GREEN Mrs. L. M. Silvers and Mr. Geo. W. Green were united in marriage in this city on last Tuesday and are home near Prentiss. Mrs. Green was for some years connected with the Sanders Dry Goods Co. of Sayre and Mr. Green has represented a livestock firm in buying cattle here for a number of years. Many of the old-timers and not a few of the new friends of the newly weds join the Standard in wishing them much happiness. A. Stovall. Mr. Allison is the son of R. J. Allison who lives near Doxey. These two young people are very well and favorably known in Sayre and surrounding country. They have a host of friends who join the Standard in wishing them much happiness. They will make their home in Oklahoma City. These young people were employed at the Greer eating house and since the fire last Saturday night have had a vacation which they took advantage of for their wedding. The bride was unfortunate in having her wedding clothes burned in the building. The couple informed their friends, however, that a wedding gown was not necessary for a happy wedding. Hunt of Carter, and Miss Zelpha Godfrey of Binger, Okla., were united in marriage at Sayre last Saturday afternoon. Roy is well known to the people of Carter and this part of the country, having lived here for a long time before leaving for the army. After he came back from France he located at Hinton, Ok., where he and his brother Rupert are engaged in the garage business. While the bride is not known by the people here still we all feel like she is bound to be a very worthy young lady by Roy making her his choice for a life companion. Elbrege Tabor and Miss Lou Finch, two of our most popular young people, were married in Carter at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. And Mrs. A. L. Finch, Sunday morning at 9:30. He is at present employed at the First State Bank here. Both he and his bride have lived here for a number of years and their friends are limited only by the number of their acquaintances. Martin home in Sayre when Miss Henryetta Martin and Mr. Victor A. Hoersch of Iowa were united in marriage. The bride is the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. O. H. Martin, who have been residents of the city for many years and is one of Sayre's most highly accomplished young ladies. Mr. Hoersch will be a member of the faculty at the Oklahoma State University this year. The ceremony was performed by Rev. W. J. More of the First Methodist Church, after which a four course luncheon was served to the guests, comprised of the immediate relatives of the family and a few close friends. Davis of this city, was married last Saturday afternoon to George Schwabe, postal clerk at Arapaho, Oklahoma. The bride and groom left immediately for their home in that city. Rev. O. H. Moore, pastor of the Presbyterian church, performed the ceremony at the courthouse. Miss Davis was known by many Sayre people having intimate friends among the younger set, with whom she attended high school here last year. She was married on her 18th birthday. Davis at Sentinel, returning to Sayre on Thursday of that week and will reside here. Rev. Davis owns a beautiful home on Fourth street where he and his mother have resided for some time. Ivester quietly slipped away to Mangum, Oklahoma, and were married in the study of the Methodist church of that city. The bride and groom returned to this city the same evening and are at home in the residence on Fourth street recently purchased by Mr. Ivester. Mrs. Ivester is the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. F. M. Turner and J. Alfred is a son of Mr. And Mrs. J. W. Ivester of this city. The young couple has a very wide acquaintance and are exceedingly well liked by everyone who knows them. The bride has been in the millinery business in this city with her sister, Mrs. Frank Vessels, for several years and is a young lady of excellent business judgment as well as being a favorite of the young people of the city. Mr. Ivester has been associated with his father in the grocery business and has spent most of his life here. He is one of the veterans of the 90th division and was overseas for many months and on the firing line in the world war. He commands the highest respect of everyone who knows him and is one of Sayre's most promising young business men. Mr. Taylor is an industrious farmer residing out northwest of town while his bride is an accomplished young lady who resided across the river south of here. After the ceremony the crowd went out to the home of Mr. J. W. Taylor, father of the groom, and partook of a big wedding and birthday dinner, the day being also the birthday of the bridegroom, as well as his wedding day. Whitehurst that a marriage ceremony was to be performed. Mrs. Felber has been in the general merchandise business at Doxey for several years and Mr. Tindell is one of the prosperous farmers of that community. E. Twitty at about 5:30 P.M. Mr. Bonifield is known to many young people of this city, as he is a graduate of the high school here. Both are well known in Erick and their many friends wish them a happy and successful married life. Mr. Bonifield completed his dental course at Kansas City about two years ago and immediately opened an office in Erick where he has since been located. Luther has been in the habit of doing this occasionally and nothing serious was thought of it but the situation became rather serious with Luther and on Friday word was received by his mother here of his marriage in Kansas City to Miss Louise Nash, well known here, on Wednesday, January 19. Miss Nash has spent the past two seasons with the Turner Sisters millinery establishment in Sayre and has a host of warm personal friends here who will be glad to learn that she will again in the near future be a resident among them. The marriage of George D. Locke and Miss Eula Redwine, which was performed by Judge McComas, was not announced to friends until last Friday evening. Mr. Locke is the son of Mrs. Tom Rains, who was at one time one of Erick's residents. During the war he was commissioned lieutenant in the Aerio Service and won many honors. Mr. And Mrs. Geo. D. Locke left Friday night for Oklahoma City where they expect to make their home. Mr. Collins is a nephew of Mr. And Mrs. W. O. Hood, and has spent many vacations at this place when he met Miss Martin about Christmas time and cupid cast his bow at first sight. After a short visit with relatives and friends here they left Wednesday noon for Amarillo, Miami and other points in Texas to visit relatives before returning here for a brief stay. Married at Atchison, Kansas, to Tulsa, Oklahoma, Oil Man. The following is taken from the Tulsa World of Sunday last: "A. A. Small, pioneer citizen of Tulsa and Mrs. Jennie H. Randle, of Sayre, Oklahoma, were married Monday at the home of the bride's brother, W. A. Hollingsworth, in Atchison, Kansas. They returned to Tulsa Saturday and will be at home to their friends at their residence 520 South Denver avenue, for a short time, after which they will leave for Colorado to spend the summer. "Both Mr. Small and his bride were born near Anderson, Indiany (sic). They came to Oklahoma in the same year, 1908. His first business venture here was the building of the city lines of the Oklahoma Union Railway company. Of late he has been engaged in the oil business. He was a candidate for United States senator in the republican primaries last summer. "Mrs. Small has been active in Methodist church circles all her life." Mrs. Randle has been a resident of this city for a number of years, is the mother of Luther and Russell Randle, and well known here, where a large circle of friends will wish her the greatest measure of happiness. Renner of Wellington, Texas, of the marriage of their daughter Elnora Pearl to Mr. J. H. Forrester on Sunday, July 17th. It will be remembered that Mrs. Forrester taught expression in our school two years ago, while Mr. Forrester was English and Science teacher in High School. Both are highly esteemed by all who know them and their old pupils remember them with kindest regards. (The Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, Ok, 4 August 1921) Lowe - Spencer Miss Lelia Lowe of the Dabney community, and Mr. Stanford Spencer of New London, Conn., who has been visiting relatives here ran away last Tuesday to Oklahoma City where they were married Wednesday, July 27th. Miss Lelia Lowe is the second daughter, and the youngest child of Mrs. Nettie Lowe who have resided here for a number of years. Last Tuesday as she was getting ready to come to town she told her mother she was going to visit for a few days with her sister, Flossie. Her mother thought no different, but when her brother came to take her home last Thursday Flossie had not seen her since Tuesday when she said that she was going to Sayre to meet some of her girl friends coming home from Weatherford. They at once began inquiring as to her whereabouts and found in the Oklahoma News where marriage license has been issued to the couple. Mr. Spencer's people resided south of here for a number of years and he is well known in the Dabney community. He has served three years in the navy and had re-enlisted for four years longer. Mrs. Spencer returned Friday and will remain here a month with her mother before joining her husband at New London, Conn. She is a splendid young lady in every way, being of fine character, jolly disposition and one of which Erick is glad she will make this her home. Mr. Wagnon is one of our most prominent young men. Mr. Hill is one of Elk City's leading business men and Miss Wade is employed as a teacher in the Elk City High School. These young people have a host of friends in Beckham area. MARRIAGE CLIPPINGS - 1922 (The Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, Ok, 2 Feb 1922) Berlin. Another wedding took place on Friday evening last, when Brooks Buckelew and Miss Duncan were married. They kept the news of their marriage a secret until Monday evening, when they entertained many of their young friends. A nice time was spent by all present. The treats consisted of candy and cigars. The bride is a charming young lady, of Butler, who has been teaching in the Berlin schools, and Brooks is the son of Mr. And Mrs. P. B. Buckelew, a fine young man. They are to be congratulated. George Wesley, superintendent for the Pearce Construction Co., and in charge of the paving operations in this city, and Mrs. Josie Tapp, of this city, were quietly married at the Huckins Hotel on Friday evening last. Mr. And Mrs. J. S. Schooler, of Sweetwater, Texas, and Miss Mary Barker, of this city, were the only friends present. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Williams, Methodist clergyman. Mr. Wesley has only been a resident of this city for a short time, coming here when paving operations started, but during his residence among us has made a large number of friends. The bride has been a resident of this city for the past eleven or twelve years and is widely known among the people of this city and vicinity, and a large circle of friends will join with the Headlight in wishing the newlyweds the fullest measure of success and happiness. Miss Thelma Powers, of Oklahoma City, and Mr. Marvin Graham, of Guthrie, were united in marriage on Saturday, May 6, by the pastor of the Harmony Church at Oklahoma City. The bride is well known in Sayre, having lived in this vicinity the greater part of her life and was formerly a stenographer for the Sayre Wholesale Grocery Company. Mr. Graham is a well known young man of Guthrie, having a position there with the D & W Taylor Shop. Immediately after the ceremony the young couple left for Guthrie where they will remain but a short time, and will then return to Oklahoma City, where they expect to make their future home. A radiating personality and a wonderful happy disposition makes us predict a happy future. Brewer, 813 ˝ N. Dewy, Oklahoma City, when the beautiful and impressive words were spoken by Elder W. W. Brewer, which united Mr. Minnis A. Mansur and Miss Veda V. McCall in the holy bonds of matrimony. The groom is an industrious, well beloved christian gentleman, a past graduate of the University of Oklahoma. He is now employed as superintendent of school work at Cheyenne, for the ensuing year. He comes from one of our best families, and citizens of Elk City, having been reared in this vicinity. The bride is an accomplished daughter of Mr. J. M. McCall of Hammon. She is a successful teacher and a sweet, loveable christian lady. Last week just as we were going to press we received word that Philip Flaxman, Jr., son of P. Flaxman, proprietor of the Dixie store, had taken unto himself one of Erick's most accomplished and esteemed young ladies, Miss Ruby Witt, daughter of Mrs. J. L. Witt. The wedding ceremony was performed at Wheeler, Texas, Wednesday, May 31st. After the wedding the young couple took a train to Okla. City, where they spent a few days visiting relatives and friends, returning to Erick Sunday. These young people are well and favorably known in Erick and vicinity and to know them is to like them. Frank Lovington and Mary Lanferman were united in marriage Saturday afternoon by Father Geeraert. The young couple are staying at the home of the bride at present. (The Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, Ok, 29 June 1922) Glaze - Gossett Floyd F. Glaze and Fern Opal Gossett were united in marriage Saturday, June 24th, at 8 p.m. by Rev. Chas. Lennex, pastor of the First Christian church of Elk City. Only a few close relatives of the bridal party attending. Immediately after the ceremony the couple accompanied by Mr. And Mrs. C. G. Glaze, and Mr. And Mrs. J. V. Gossett attended the Chautauqua and later partook of a bounteous wedding supper served by the groom's mother. On Sunday the young couple together with the bride's brother, J. V. Gossett and family, motored to the home of the bride's parents, Mr. And Mrs. J. M. Gossett, who live five miles north of Sayre. Here a most enjoyable day was spent with home folk and friends. The bride is a popular young lady, having many friends in the community where she lived. Mr. Glaze, the son of well known Elk City residents, Mr. And Mrs. C. G. Glaze. He is an industrious young man, a carpenter by trade, and is now employed at Thomas, Oklahoma, where the young couple will make their future home after July 1st. The happy event taking place at the residence of the bride's parents, Mr. And Mrs. L. D. Stone, northwest of Sayre, on Sunday afternoon in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends. The bride is well known in Sayre having attended high school here and graduated in the class of 1920. She was loved and admired by all who knew her for her smiles and kind disposition. The groom is a highly accomplished young man of Slaton, Texas, but lived here some years previous. A reception was given them at home of his brother, J. C. Green, on Monday evening last, after which they left for Slaton, Texas, where the groom is engaged as a druggist, and where they will make their future home. Just on the eve of the Thanksgiving Season the lives of Mr. Johnny Elms and Miss Doll Gardner merged into one, and there is every reason to believe that their marriage month which belongs to the most happy season of the year, is tropical (sic) of the joy, they will reap from a happy married life. At 7:30 o'clock Tuesday night, November 28th a few intimate friends of "Johnny" and "Ruth" accompanied them to the home of Bro. Ilus Q. McCorkle, pastor of the Christian Church there to witness a ceremony that had been awaited with pleasurable anticipation. The bride and groom had as best man and bridesmaid, Grady Elms, brother of the groom, and Miss Lucille Gardner, only sister of the bride. Bro. McCorkle said the words of the momentous ceremony and after the congratulations, informal and heart felt, the company returned to the Gardner home, where refreshments of cake and fruit were served. No account of the wedding would be complete without at least a reference to the presents. Many gifts appropriate and well chosen have been showered upon the young couple by numerous friends and relatives. Mr. And Mrs. Elms expect to go to housekeeping at once in a new cottage on Bungalow Ave. Mrs. Elms has resided in Erick for a number of years, is a graduate of Erick High School and attended Oklahoma University. She has many friends throughout the country, is a member of the Christian Church and Ass't Secretary of the Bible School. She possesses kindliness and charm that will grace any position that she fills. John Elms is a reliable young man possessing business ability, has resided in Erick since a small boy. The pastor of the local Nazarene church officiated. The contracting parties were Lottie Koger, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. J. E. Koger northwest of Mayfield, and Jess A. Upchurch, Nephew of W. L. Holland southwest of Erick. They will be at home ten miles southwest of Erick on the Haddock place.
