Mrs. Gibbs was a student in Erick high school and would have graduated with the 1930-31 class. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Coursey of the Choctaw community. Mr. Gibbs is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Gibbs, former residents of Erick, now residing in Haskell, Okla. The couple has gone to Haskell to reside. (The Beckham County Democrat - Erick, Erick, Beckham Co, Ok, 1 Jan 1931): Former Erickite Marries Bartlesville Girl. Announcement was made this week of the marriage of Eldon Shufflebarger and Miss Alyce Shreffler, which took place at Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Tuesday, December 2nd. Eldon is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Schufflebarger. He grew to young manhood here, was graduated from the Shamrock high school with the class of 1926, and later attended college at Oklahoma A & M at Stillwater, Okla. He is now in the employ of the engineering department of the Indian Territory Illuminating Oil Company at Bartlesville. Mrs. Schufflebarger is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Shreffler of Bartlesville. The are now at home in that city at 404 Choctaw street. - Shamrock Texan. Mr. Schufflebarger is a nephew of Mesdames L. E. Thomas and Rube Ratcliff of this city. A double wedding of two couples from Sayre, namely: Otis White and Miss Edna McGinnie; and Harry Shelton and Miss Opal McGinnis was solomnized (sic) here Saturday afternoon at the home of the officiating Minister Rev. W. A. Roberts. Mesdames B. A. Howard and W. A. Roberts were witnesses to the affair. (The Beckham County Democrat - Erick, Erick, Beckham Co, Ok, 12 Feb 1931): NUPTIALS. Mr. Loyd Drury and Miss Dorothy Mouser were married January 24th surprising friends and relatives of Dorothy of this city. Dorothy is the second daughter of W. H. Mouser of this city. She graduated from the local high school with the class of 1926 and graduated from Oklahoma University last June. While there she was prominent in the Alpha Omi Con Pi Sororiety(sic), holding the office of Treasurer during her senior year at the University. Dorothy is a lovable girl and has many friends in Cheyenne where she has lived all of her life. Mr. Drury's home is in Altus. He is a fine young man. He has taught in the Warren school two years and has many friends. He attended Oklahoma University and has a Life Certificate. They will continue teaching at Blair, Oklahoma. Wilcox of Morse, Texas, and Miss Eva Ruth Pinson of Sayre, Oklahoma, were united in marriage at the Christian church parsonage last Sunday afternoon. Miss Viola Allison, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Bob Allison, former residents in the New Liberty community, northeast of Erick, was married here Wednesday, March 4th to Mr. F. J. Beganouski, of Dalhart, at the home of the officiating minister, Rev. S. N. Wilson. They departed immediately for Dalhart, where they will make their home. (The Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, Ok, 9 Apr 1931): SHAMROCK EDITOR TAKES BRIDE TUESDAY. Couple Belong To Popular Younger Set of Shamrock But Follow Precedent of Texas, Marry in Okla. Albert Cooper, publisher of the Shamrock Texan drove into Sayre Tuesday morning with a new bride, formerly Miss Edna Batt, manager of the Southwestern Bell Telephone company at Shamrock. Cooper and Miss Batt were quietly married at Cheyenne at 9 o'clock Tuesday by Judge J. Cassady after a swift early morning drive from Shamrock. Both are popular members of the younger set at Shamrock. Needless to say that their marriage was a surprise to friends. Mrs. Cooper is the charming daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Batt of Amarillo. After obtaining her preliminary education in the public schools of her community, she finished her education at Ward Belmont College at Nashville, Tennessee. Mr. Cooper is a graduate of the university of Oklahoma. He was a member of the S. A. E. and Sigma Delta Chi social and honorary journalism fraternities. While attending the university, Mr. Cooper served as managing editor of the Oklahoma Daily, student publication. He has served as editor of The Hugo Daily News, the Woodward Daily Press, The Norman Transcript and several other dailies. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Olivia Cooper of Hugo. Immediately after the marriage ceremony the pair started on a short honeymoon tour of Oklahoma and adjoining states. They will be at home to their friends in Shamrock Monday. (The Erick Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, Ok, 7 May 1931): MIXON - MORGAN Miss Ruby Morgan and Mr. Garland Mixon were quietly married at Sayre, Friday, May 1st. The wedding came as a surprise to every one except very near friends of the bride and groom. Mrs. Mixon is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Morgan of this city. Both of these young people are well known here, having made this their home for a number of years. They were accompanied to Sayre, by Mrs. N. C. Riley and Mrs. Edd. Dollar who were the only witnesses to the marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Mixon will make this their future home. (The Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, Ok, 13 May 1931): MARRIAGES ARE ON INCREASE IN COUNTY. Texas Couples Call For Licenses At All Hours During Day and Night, Says Court Clerk. Marriage business is picking up in Beckham County, according to Tom Lowry, court clerk. A total of seven licenses were granted during six days and one night, last week, Tom said. Texas couples still predominate the license records and they come at all hours of the day. Mr. Lowry was called out of bed at 4 o'clock Tuesday morning of last week to issue a license to Bob Stiles, son of B. F. Stiles, Wheeler, Texas, rancher, and to Miss Treva Jones, a school teacher of that place. The couple were married by Rev. T. N. Weeks at 4:45 and at 4:50 they were on their way for a week of honeymoon in the eastern sections of the state. Earlier that night he was required to get out of bed and issue license to W. W. Shadid and Miss Wehba of McLean, Texas. Greer, Sunday afternoon, in the presence of a small group of friends. The bride is a daughter of Dave White who resides near Hext Switch. The groom is a well known resident of the Hibbard community. Mr. Charles Brush and Miss Ruth Lloyd were quietly married in Sayre, Saturday afternoon, at 3:00 o'clock. Mr. Ralph Evans and Miss Vada Head were quietly married at the Baptist parsonage Saturday afternoon at 3:30, Rev. W. A. Roberts officiating. The bride was attired in a sea blue chiffon frock and a matching blue picture hat. The young people were accompanied by Misses Odessa Head and Kay Evans and Messrs. Eco Strickland and James Head., who were the only witnesses of the ceremony. Mrs. Evans is the youngest daughter of Mrs. Susie Head and is well known in Erick having lived here about five years. The groom is the son of Mrs. J. L. Evans and is a diary farmer, residing south of town. These fine young people will continue to make their home here. With 36 couples obtaining licenses to be married during the month of June at the court clerk's office there is evidently no cessation in the marriage business in Beckham county. Tom Lowry, court clerk, produced evidence from a governmental source to prove that marriages in Beckham county are increasing and that divorces are decreasing. Mr. Lawrence Derrossett and Miss Ersie Gallegly were married at the farm home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Gallegly, Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock. The marriage vows were read by Rev. S. N. Wilson. The only guest beside the immediate family was Miss Della Cowan. Mrs. Derrossett is well known in Erick and community, having been a pupil and also an instructor in the Erick schools. Mr. Derrossett is the son of Chas. Derrossett of Webb City, Okla. The couple departed immediately after the ceremony for a short visit in Webb City before leaving for Overton, Texas, where they will make their future home. Erick friends, hearing of the approaching marriage planned an impromptu program, dedicated to the young couple. Featured on this program was an organ solo, a vocal solo and a number on the Notre Dame Chimes, played by Dr. and Mrs. C. R. L. Vawter. Mr. and Mrs. Frass were accompanied to Erick by the bride's mother, Mrs. Wright of Shattuck, the bride's aunt, Mrs. Connor, of Albuquerque, N. Monday evening the young people were chivaried, and in turn treated all their friends to cigars and candy. A nice time was enjoyed by all and at a late hour all left for home after expressing their joy of the evening. Nothing has been learned of the future plans of Mr. and Mrs. Price. Haynes and Mrs. Frances Smith was soleminized (sic) at the First Baptist Parsonage at high noon, Friday, November 20th, Rev. W. A. Roberts officiating. Mr. Haynes is the son of Mr. F. O. Haynes of Erick, and Mrs. Haynes is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Edwards, who reside southwest of Erick. This couple will reside on the F. O. Haynes Farm located southwest of Erick, and will be at home to their friends at their new place of residence. These young people were married Sunday November 24, in Sayre, Oklahoma. The bride is the youngest daughter of County Attorney W. H. Mouser and has grown to young womanhood in Cheyenne where she has a host of friends. She graduated from the local high school two years ago and since then has spent some time in Oklahoma City in school. She is a young woman admired by all and one who has many close friends. Mr. Elbert Bradshaw is the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Bradshaw and has resided in Cheyenne since a small boy. At the present time he is one of the managers of the Conoco Station No. 2. B. Roden of Hobart and has been engaged in teaching in the Hext schools. She has taught a number of terms in the district making her home with Mr. and Mrs. Burkhalter. She has a charming personality and is very popular among all with whom she comes in contact. Announcement of the marriage of Miss Frances Penick of Elk City and Amos Green of this city on January 5, came as a surprise to their friends here this week. For the past few months the groom has been in Monett, Missouri, where he has been in business for himself. Harry is brother to "Mac" Campbell, well known citizen of Erick. An event of much interest was the wedding of Miss Ethel Green, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Green, and Vernon A. Glass on Thursday, May 19. The simple ceremony was performed by Rev. J. T. Daniels, pastor of the Baptist church in the home of the bride's parents at 5 o'clock in the afternoon. Mrs. Glass wore a sport frock of white crepe with matching accessories. Aside from the immediate members of the bride's family only a few friends were present. They were: Miss Laura Hickman of Erick, Miss Grace Kennedy and Miss Clelia Moffett. Both young ladies attended the city high school and have a number of friends here. Elk City Daily News. Mrs. Kendall was a teacher in the Meridian school before her marriage. Mr. Kendall is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Kendall of this city. He is a prosperous farmer near Cheyenne. They will make their home in this city for a time. (The Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, Roger Mills Co, Ok, 9 Jun 1932): Speed in rendering required services, a requirement of a legislator was demonstrated by Milton Keen Saturday night. "Milton, get me a marriage license," came the request over the telephone to Keen from his brother Tom, of Weatherford, with the further information that he and Miss Mildred Miller were on their way here to get married that night. Having procured the necessary credentials from the court clerk, Keen then began looking for someone to officiate. The quest led to H. L. Hutchens, Justice of the Peace, who in the vernacular of the street, was sawing logs. It was then 10:30 P.M. The newly appointed justice, who until that time, had not performed a marriage ceremony, finally arrived in accordance with Keen's request at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sprowls. In due time the contracting parties arrived, and the marriage occurred without any hitches. Following the wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Keen left for Weatherford where they will make their future home. CITY MAN Of great interest to the society circles of the neighboring towns, as well as in Norman and Oklahoma City, is the recent announcement of the marriage of Miss Helen Jo Denby, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J. M. Denby of Carter, to Robert Berry of Oklahoma City on May 21st. Mrs. Berry is a former student of Ward Belmont college in Nashville, Ten., Honckaday School in Dallas and the University of Oklahoma where she belongs to Pi Beta Phi, social sorority. Following the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Armer and a few intimate friends were entertained at breakfast by Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Jayne. Shortly afterwards the couple left for a honeymoon trip to Dallas and other Texas cities. Mrs. Armer is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Young of this city. L. Martin and Charles Albert McCann, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George McCann of Kaw City, Kansas. The wedding was an event of last Tuesday, July fifth in the home of the bride's aunt, Mrs. J. Pete Thurmond of Elk City. The marriage vows were read by the Rev. Malone of the First Christian church in the presence of only a few members of the family and a few friends. Mrs. McCann has been a very popular member of Sayre and Elk City society. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Taylor of Sentinel and the niece of Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Martin and Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Thurmond of Elk City. Mrs. McCann is a honor graduate of Hockaday school in Dallas and a recent student of Oklahoma University where she is a member of Pi Beta Phi school sorority and an honorary Latin fraternity. Mr. McCann, who before the past school year, was associated in business with the Shell Oil Company in Venezuela, South America, has also attended Oklahoma University where he is a member of Kappa Alpha and Tri Chi fraternities. Five divorces were granted by Judge T. P. Clay in a two day August non-jury session of district court which convened Monday and Tuesday of last weeks and the docket was cleared of a number of criminal cases. Mary Lee Haynes was granted a decree of divorce from Roger Haynes and given $10 per month alimony. Divorce and custody of child was granted Opal Simmerly from Eugene Simmerly. In the suit of W. E. Reed against Voncille Reed, plaintiff, was granted a decree of divorce. Grace Jenkins was given a divorce and custody minor child and $10 per month alimony in suit against W. J. Jenkins. Aggie Grissom was given decree of divorce, custody of minor child and $15 per month alimony when her divorce case against P. K. Grissom was heard. In the case of Durham vs Durham, Mr. Durham was given a divorce from his wife. The divorce case of Opay White and J. Burl White was taken under advisement by the court. Surprise Announcement Made During Charming Bridge Party. Mr. Charles Edgar Herring and daughter, Miss Charlcie Herring, entertained with a bridge party which was transformed into a betrothal announcement to the surprise of the guest this afternoon, when Miss Herring was revealed as the promised bride of Carl Thelen. Invitations were for bridge and playing was concluded with no intimation of the announcement. But with the serving of refreshments, small butterfly nets were brought each guest, and were made of white tulle, with handles wrapped in pink paper and ending in tulle bows. In the net reposed a pair of little butterflies of yellow bearing the inscription "Charlcie-Carl, Oct. 1." The living rooms of the home were decorated with a profusion of Talisman roses in great bouquets. Marguerite is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Ward, pioneer citizens of this community. She is a very lovable and attractive young lady and will be missed by all who knew her. She was a 1931 graduate of Texola High School and from a beginner to the eighth was a Riverview student. Our loss is Mr. Coley's gain. Mr. Coley lives near Hibbard, with his parents and is, we are sure, a very estimable young man; or he would never have won the heart of Marguerite. He was formerly with the Farmers National Bank. Miss Phillips is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Phillips who live northwest of Carnegie. She attended high school here and was graduated with the class of '30. Later she took a business course at the Anadarko Business college and is now bookkeeper at the Farmers National. Tom Lowry made his final report on marriage licenses issued and divorces granted during the year 1932 Tuesday. He issued 795 marriage license and 48 divorces were granted during the year. This is 139 more marriages and seven less divorces than in 1931. In 1930 Lowry issued 786 licenses and 88 divorces were granted. In 1929 there were 750 marriages and 85 divorces in Beckham County. A wedding of interest to members of the younger set in Sayre occured Saturday evening when Miss Birdie (sic) Hodges and Chalmer Greene were married by Rev. J. T. Means at the Presbyterian Manse. The only attendants were Miss Tressa Greene, sister of the groom, and Alfred Hodges, Jr., brother of the bride. Tucker of Grimes and a very popular young lady in that community. The groom is the son of Mrs. E. W. Hunt of Leedey and a prominent young man of that city. A wedding that was of much interest to the younger set of Sayre was that Miss Josephine Dolar and Glenn Inman, solemnized Sunday morning with only a few of the couple's personal friends present, in the home of Dr. and Mrs. H. K. Speed, with Rev. J. T. Means performing the ceremony. The house was beautifully decorated with snap dragons and ferns and other suggestions of spring. The bride was dressed in a blue and gray ensemble with accessories to match. After the marriage ceremony a plate lunch was served to the members of the bridal party and guests including: Mr. and Mrs. Horace Ivester, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Speed, Mr. and Mrs. Otho Stevens, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Inman, Miss Lucille Green, Mrs. Louise Randle, Miss Clella Moffett, Miss Gladys Collums and Jim Speed. The bride and groom left immediately afterwards for a short honeymoon. Mrs. Inman, a registered nurse, has been employed by Dr. Speed for the past three years. She was connected with the Tisdal hospital in Elk City and Sayre previously. She received her nurse training in Houston, Mississippi, having graduated from the Houston hospital. Mr. Inman, graduated from Sayre high school and attended the University of Oklahoma for two years. For the past four years he has been the manager of the Nu-Way cleaning establishment. The young couple will make their home in Sayre. A wedding of interest to the young set was that of Miss Laurine Richerson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Richerson, to Olan Rose, of Delhi, Oklahoma. Miss Richerson graduated from Sayre high school last spring and is very popular with the young people of Sayre. Mr. Rose is the son of W. T. Maxine Richerson, sister of the bride, was unable to attend the wedding because of an illness of an uncle with whom she is staying at present. Lamar Roberts, new owner of the Courthouse service station said Tuesday morning that he wished to express his thanks to the citizens of Sayre for the courtesies they had shown him since he has been here. Mr. Roberts took over the service station March 1. The station was formerly operated by Walter Marica. Mr. Roberts was formerly in the gin business in Wheeler, Texas. He is well known in Sayre and has many friends here. In September Mr. Roberts married Miss Zelma Hood of Sayre. Both Mr. and Mrs. Sanders are Oklahoma pioneers. Mrs. Sanders has been living in this country since 1898. Mr. Sanders came here 11 years ago from the Choctaw nation, near McAlester. With 40 marriage licenses issued in April by Lee Goddard, court clerk, there is no depression in the business of getting married as far as Beckham county is concerned. In quiet ceremony on Friday evening, June 2, Miss Pauline Waller, Carter, became the bride of Paul Creason, Elk City, in the presence of a few relatives and friends. The vows were read by Rev. J. Albert Steele of the First Presbyterian church, Elk City, in the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Waller, before an improvised altar graced with a single large basket of carnations and sweet peas. Similar bouquets were seen around the rooms. Miss Waller wore a traveling frock of navy blue with white accessories, and carried a bouquet of pink roses and lillies. Over her heart was a heart-shaped blue pin that had been worn by her mother on her wedding gown. This occasion also marked the twenty-seventh wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Waller. Coming as a surprise to their many friends and impressive ring ceremony which united Mrs. Mary Hammons and Mr. Ora Pickens, of Leedy. The wedding occurred this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the bride's home. The vows were read by Rev. John Daniels. Baskets of garden flowers lent a festive air to the occasion. Miss Pickens who was unattended had chosen for her wedding dress a navy blue satin suit. With it she wore white accessories. After a short wedding trip Mr. and Mrs. Pickens will be at home in Leedy. Simplicity and charm marked the beautiful and impressive ring ceremony that united Miss Teresa Wise, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Reginald Wise and J. Rowan Taliaferro, son of Dr. and Mrs. J. H. O. Smith of Oklahoma City, which occurred at high noon today at the home of the bride's parents at 1001 north Fourth street. The vows were read by Dr. Smith, father of the groom. The rooms were decorated with bowls and baskets of garden flowers which lent charm to the occasion. Mrs. Taliaferro had chosen for her wedding gown an informal afternoon dress fashioned with puff sleeves, an angora yolk, and semi-long skirt. Her accessories were white. For her flowers she had chosen sweetheart roses with showers of lily of the valley and for her "something old" she wore her mothers pearls. Mrs. Wise, mother of the bride, wore a white lace afternoon dress fashioned on long lines with pink trim. her accessories were white. Mrs. Smith was gowned in a suit of brown lace with matching accessories. After the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served to the bridal party and guests. The bride's table was spread with a mosaic cut work cloth and set with cut glass which has been treasured by the family for many years. Johanna Hill roses and fern with tall pink tapers in silver candlesticks formed the decoration for the table. A small bride and groom marked the places of Mr. and Mrs. Taliaferro and seated with them were Mr. and Mrs. Wise and Dr. and Mrs. Smith. The couple left after the ceremony for Oklahoma City and will be at home at 2502 north Robinson. For traveling, Mrs. Taliaferro wore a white linen suit with a yellow blouse. Her hat, bag and shoes were also of white. Mrs. Taliaferro is one of the most beautiful and charming members of the young social group. Her family are pioneer residents of Sayre and she grew to womanhood here. She received her education in private schools and is a graduate of Mount deSales Academy in Baltimore, Maryland. There she took special training in voice. She attended the University of Oklahoma where she was affiliated with Delta Gamma sorority and the University Glee club. Mr. Taliaferro belongs to one of the pioneer families of Oklahoma City. He attended the University of Oklahoma and Illinois where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. In Oklahoma City he belongs to the Revellers, Embassy and University clubs. He is associated in business with the Ford Motor company. The wedding of Miss Maurine Hammon and Oscar McMahan was quietly solemnized Saturday night in the Methodist church in the presence of the two families and intimate friends. The bride and groom entered together to the stains of Lohengrins Wedding March, played by Mrs. T. N. Weeks. During the reading of the vows, Mrs. Weeks played the Flower Song. The ring ceremony was read by Rev. T. N. Weeks. The altar was banked with tall baskets of pink roses. The tapers were lighted by Miss Loucyle Weeks. Miss Weeks was charmingly attired in a maroon afternoon dress with white accessories. The bride had chose for her gown a long white organdie evening dress. It was made with a ruffled skirt. For her something old, she carried a point lace handkerchief. Her flowers were Madonna lilies tied with white tulle. Mrs. Hammon, mother of the bride, wore an afternoon frock of yellow chiffon. She wore a shoulder corsage of rose buds. For her going away gown Mrs. McMahan wore a brown and white linen swagger suit with brown accessories. After September 1st Mr. and Mrs. McMahan will be at home 1207 north Broadway. They left immediately after the ceremony for a tour of the western states. Mrs. McMahan who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Garth Hammon has grown to womanhood here. She is a graduate of Sayre high school and attended Oklahoma A. & M. college, Stillwater. Mr. McMahan is a graduate of Oklahoma A. & M. college, Stillwater. For the past five years he has been science teacher in the local high school. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lowry of Oklahoma City were the only out of town guests. Preceding the wedding Mr. and Mrs. McMahan were hosts at a garden party honoring the junior class in Sayre high school. The class with the wedding party went to the church for the ceremony. The juniors presented them with a set of cuptals at the party. The announcement of the wedding of Miss Gladys Boomer, daughter of Mrs. Lenora Boomer, to Howard Slaughter of Canute was received Monday. The wedding was an event of August 22 in Elk City. The ceremony was read by Rev. R. C. Millholln in the garden of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Hortsman. An alter was improvised in the garden and banked with roses. The wedding march was played by Mrs. J. R. Brooks. Miss Nora Ward, attired in a yellow crepe afternoon dress, attended Miss Boomer as maid of honor. Mrs. Slaughter graduated from the city high school in 1929 and attended the Southwestern State Teachers College. Mr. Slaughter, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. She was a member of the Ginger Snap Pet Order of Rainbow for Girls. She had two years of nurses' training at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City. The groom is a graduate of the Erick High School and for the past four years has been attending school at the State University at Norman, majoring in Pharmacy. (The Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, Ok, 10 Oct 1933): WRIGHT - WADE VOWS ARE EXCHANGED. At a simple and impressive ceremony Saturday evening Miss Thelma Wade became the bride of Clyde Wright. The vows were read by Rev. Spencer P. Austin before an improvised altar of ferns flanked by lighted tapers in silver holders. Mrs. Austin played "I Love You Truly" on the Mariambo preceding the ceremony. Mrs. Wright was attractively attired in a brown swagger suit, her hat was the same material as the suit. Her shoes, gloves and bag were of brown suede in a matching color. Immediately following the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Wright left for Oklahoma City. Mrs. Wright is the daughter of E. M. Wade. G. Mancill. The wedding will be an event of November. Miss Jeffcoat received her education in the Sayre schools and is employed in Gertrudes Beauty Shoppe. Mr. Mancill is the son of the late W. G. Mancill of Cisco, Texas. He received his education in the Cisco schools and later attended a school of electrical engineering in Kansas City. He is employed by the Oklahoma Carbon Industries. (The Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, Ok, 9 Nov 1933): THURMOND - BARNARD The marriage of Miss Grace Thurmond, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Luther Thumond and Hubert Barnard, son of Mrs. T. Barnard of Erick, was solemnized at the First Methodist Church Monday evening at 8:15 o'clock in the presence of a large concourse of friends. Before an improvised altar formed by baskets of orchid and white chrysanthemums and ferns, Rev. T. N. Weeks, pastor of the church for the past nine years and a close friend of the bride's family, read the impressive ring ceremony. The marriage came as a surprise to the friends of the popular young couple. The candles were lighted by Mrs. Duard Rosenbaum of Erick, a life long friend of the bride. Mrs. Rosenbaum wore a handsome blue swagger suit and her flowers were a shoulder corsage of Briarcliff. Miss Martha Troxel played the musical program preceding the vows; she wore a black velvet afternoon frock trimmed in ermine and a white turban. Mrs. John O. Maberry, an aunt of Mrs. Barnard, sang "I Love You Truly," she wore a striking brown tan afternoon gown. Miss Eula Pearl Thurmond, sister of the bride and her only attendant, chose for the occasion a green street dress with brown accessories; Miss Thurmond carried Briarcliff roses. Mrs. Barnard is the eldest of three daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Thurmond and is one of the popular members of the sub deb set in town. Her family on the maternal side came to Sayre in an early day and have been identified with the upbuilding of the town and community. On her paternal side, the family is one of the most widely known in western Oklahoma and Texas, and Mrs. Barnard has inherited a charming character of a sturdy ancestry. Mrs. Barnard was charming in brown swagger suit of triple sheer with matching accessories. She carried an arm bouquet of Johanna Hill roses. Mr. Barnard was attended by his brother Thomas Barnard. The young couple will be at home in Erick after November 10th, where Mr. Barnard is associated with the L. L. Hughes and Company. - Sayre Headlight. (The Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, Ok, 23 Nov 1933): FUNDERBURG - FATHEREE The marriage of Olin Funderburg and Miss Wilemma Fathereee, which occurred at Hollis, Oklahoma, on October 31st, was announced this week. The couple stole a march on their friends and went to Hollis, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hood and were quietly married by the pastor of the First Christian Church at that place, keeping the marriage a secret until the last few days. The marriage of this young couple united two of the most prominent families of the city, both of the young people having been reared here. The bride is the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. G. Fatheree, and is a senior in Erick High School. She has been active in school affairs and social circles and a general favorite. Mr. Funderburg is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Zack Funderburg. He is a graduate of Erick High School, and since graduating has been associated with his father in the City Market & Grocery. He is a young man of exemplary habits, energetic and ambitious and has a large circle of friends among the younger set. The young couple are receiving the congratulations and best wishes of all who know them and they are starting life's journey together under the most favorable circumstances.
