Daugherty, 65, a Butler resident and former educator, was held at 2:00 p.m.Monday, May 3, 2004 in the First Baptist Church of Butler, Oklahoma with Rev. Jack Pilgrim officiating. Burial will conclude in the Arapaho Cemetery, Arapaho, Custer County, Oklahoma under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home. Gary was born August 8, 1938, southeast of Watonga, Oklahoma to Bryon and "Polly" Cordell Daugherty, and passed away early Thursday, April 29, 2004, in thew Integris South West Medical in Oklahoma City, following a lengthly battle with cancer. When Gary was small the family moved to a farm near Butler, on the Barnitz Creek. He attended school at Arapaho, graduating in 1956. He went to Southwestern State University and earned hisa Bachelors Degree. In the summer he began custom harvesting and continued those yearly treks for 16 years. On September 6, 1959, he married Glenna "Gaye" Trammell in Hollis, Oklahoma. Gary began his teaching career in 1963 in Seldon, Kansas, where he taught 2 year. He taught one year in Hamilton, Kansas, and then moved to Oklahoma. He taught Industrial Arts in Forgan, Oklahoma, where his ship classes built houses. The family moved to Custer in 1980 where Gary taught in Custer City before retiring in 1991. They moved to Butler in 1982 and began farming. He continued farming until his death. He was a member of the Butler Baptist Church, A.A.R.P., Butler Round-Up Club, Masonic Lodge and a past member of the Forgan Lions Club. It was said that Gary never met a stranger and he loved to visit. He will be missed at the Butler Rodeo, where he flipped hamburgers every year. He enjoyed basketball and rarely missed a game. In his spare time, Gary enjoyed deer hunting and making deer jerky. The loves of his life were his grandchildren. He enjoyed riding our-wheelers with them and following their ballgames. He loved working with his hands, making things out of wood and metal. He wads preceded in death by his wife Gaye, in April 2003, and his faher in April 1994. He is survived by his mother Polly of Butler, three daughters, Kim Bakewr and her husband Alvin of Butler, Donnita Clapp and her husband Kerry of Edmond, Oklahoma, Brenda Meacham and her husband Kirk of Clinton, 2 brothers Bryon Wayne ands hias wqife Peggy of Arapaho, Larry and his wife Artie of Seiling, Oklahoma, a sister Phyllis Daugherty of Butler, six grandchildren Matt Baker, Kasie Baker, Makayla Baker, Kyler Baker, Adam Clapp and Abby Clapp, and a host of other relatives and friends.
