All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::DFW National Cemetery--Dallas TX Kubat, Joseph Patrick Joseph Patrick Kubat, 85, a retired Army colonel, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2006. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Greenwood Chapel. Burial: Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: The family requests that donations be made to The North Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society. Joe was born the first of three children to Joseph and Edith Kubat on June 7, 1921, in Okeene, Okla. He entered the Army as a 16-year-old farm boy in 1937. After serving on the European Front, Joe remained in the Reserves, obtaining the rank of colonel. Joe and his beloved Hester married in 1943. She became his strongest supporter and partner as he went on to complete law school in Arkansas and later was appointed a judge on the Board of Veteran Appeals in Washington, D.C. Joe acknowledged many times that he and Hester were a team. His strong faith led him to many positions in his church and the honor of Methodist Man of the Year. His many years of volunteer work at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Virginia and Harris Methodist in Fort Worth gave service to many. In 2002, Joe was honored with induction to the Officers Candidates School Hall of Fame at ceremonies at Fort Rutgers, Ga. Family was the focal point for Joe. He conveyed his love, respect and pride to each and every one. His dependability and unconditional love made each one feel special. He was a man of accomplishment, character and dignity. Joe was a man of strength with a gentle touch. He embraced the lives of everyone he met and will be deeply missed. Family members would like to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Kathleen Crowley for her compassion and care, and to the staff of Harris Methodist seventh floor. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Kubat. Survivors: Cherished wife of 63 years, Hester; daughter, Rebecca Meriwether and husband, David; son, Michael Kubat and wife, Sharon; grandchildren, Lisa Lambert and husband, Robert, Brian Phillip Poole and wife, Jessica, Ashley Kubat and Adrienne Kubat; great- grandchildren, Blake Alan Poole, Harris Patrick Lambert and Molly Grace Lambert; sister, Rita Kubat Dees; sisters-in-law, Wanda Smith and Rae Lena; and many nieces and nephews.
