After 78 years of travel over the hills of adversity and through the valey of happiness, Joel Myers Post laid down the cross of life, September 20, 1910, the power's which have so long been his servants gathered about his dying couch and their last offices ushered him into the new life and the grandeur possibilities of the world to come. He was born January 11, 1832 in Cartaragus County, Conawonga, New York. At the age of six years he moved with his parents to Green Bay, Wis. Then to Iowa where for many years he lived a frontier life. When the 16th Iowa Infantry,from which he was honorably discharged April 29, 1862, by reasons of disability. He afterwards enlisted in the 10th Minnesota Infantry, Company E and served to the close of the war being four years in actual service. He took part in sixteen engagements. Among them were two Battle of Bull Run, Antietam, Shiloh and Nashville. The last in which he was wounded and the effects of which he bore till death. At th! e close of the war he went to Dodge County, Minnesota where he was married to Martha I. Reed. In 1881 he moved to South Dakota at which place he resided until 1894 when he moved to Blaine County, Oklahoma. In 1902 he located near Antelope, Oklahoma where he resided until his death. He was a Bible Student and a firm believer in the Seventh Day Adventist Faith. His great courage and strong in will perservd to the last and when the shadows of death over took him, he said,"I am ready," He was the father of seven children, five girls and two boys, five sisters, a half brother, wife, children, thirteen grandchildren, one great grandchild and a host of friends are left to mourn their loss. Funeral services were conductd by Rev. O.F. Stevens of College Vien, Nebraska after which the remains were laid to rest in the Fairview Cemetery.
