All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Roman Nose, Susie Sandhill SUSIE SANDHILL ROMAN NOSE was born to Robert Sandhill and Stands Silent on October 12, 1912, and passed away early Thursday morning on January 2, 2003, at the Watonga Municipal Hospital. Her Cheyenne name was 'Standing Twenty'. She was born in the Cantonment/Longdale area and later attended school at Cantonment currently where present day Canton Lake is located. She later attended schools at Concho and another Indian boarding school out of state. It is unsure if this school was Sante Fe Indian School or another boarding school located in Iowa. She was baptized into the Mennonite Church. She lived with her two sisters, Edna and Pearl, and a brother, Herbert. In the 1915 census, her household consisted of her father, mother, two sisters, one brother, a grand parent (thought to be paternal grandmother) and an infant brother who lived only a few months. After her father died, Susie and her sister, Pearl Sandhill Williams, were raised primarily by their older sister Edna Sandhill Fire. Susie was first married to Herbert Whitebuffalo and later married to Milan Roman Nose who preceded her in death. Two sons, Dwight WhiteBuffalo and Randolph Roman Nose, and five grandchildren and four great grandchildren also preceded her in death. She is survived by eight children; Beatrice Nanpooya, Wapato, Washington, Cynthia Medicine Bear, Watonga, Herbert Whitebuffalo, Watonga, Rochelle Whitebuffalo, Stratford, Melvin Roman Nose, El Reno, Elizabeth Roman Nose, Seattle, Washington, Quinton Roman Nose, Watonga, and Edwin Sandhill, El Reno. And four grandchildren she raised, Yvette Pinkham, Wapato, Washington, Suzanne Whitebuffalo, Watonga, Michelle Johnson, El Reno, Chiara Roman Nose, Kingfisher. She had a total of 24 grand children and 56 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
