As a young boy of sixteen, he was working as a farm laborer on a horse farm in Oklahoma. About the age of nineteen, Angus married a young woman named Mrytle. Angus and Mrytle had one son, Oscar E. Giles and two daughters, Fern and Maggie Giles. Oscar was born September 30, 1913 in Colbert, Oklahoma. Fern was born about 1916 in Oklahoma. Maggie was born about 1918 in Oklahoma. Angus, Mrytle, and their children are listed on the 1920 census of Oklahoma. Enumerated in January of 1920 in the Mulberry Precint, Township 5, Colbert Oklahoma in Bryan County. Angus is living next door to his brother Floyd. Angus is listed as a white male, age twenty-seven,born in Texas. Mrytle, his wife is listed as white female, age 27, born in Georgia. Angus owned his home in 1920. (He did not have it mortgaged.) He is listed as being able to both read and write. He lists his father as being born in Tennesse and his mother being born in Texas. He is listed as being a farmer of his own farm. (Farm Schedule 90) Myrtleis listed as being able to both read and write. She lists her parents as both being born in Georgia. Mrytle passes away in 1920. This was around the peak of the worldwide influenza epidemic. She is buried in the Garden of Memory Cemetery in Colbert, Oklahoma. (near Angus Giles) Angus married his second wife, Lona. Lona was born on March 22, 1901, location unknown. Angus and Lona were married sometime before 1921. The birth of their first child, Angus M. Giles, Jr was on November 27, 1921. Angus and Lona had several other children. Some could still be living. Angus was a farmer. He had several acres of land somewhere between Colbert and Cartwright in Bryan County. He died in 1969. Lona died several years later in August of 1987. They are buried in the Garden of Memory Cemetery in Colbert, Oklahoma near several beloved family members. Four known children surpassed Angus in death. Patricia Ann Giles died at the tender age of two in January of 1943. A few months later, the newborn Billy Lee Giles died at the age of 15 days old in April of 1943. When Billy passed away, Angus Jr. was stationed at Camp Carson in Colorado. Two short years later, Angus M. Giles, Jr died on June 30, 1945. He died overseas during World War II. He was the first body to be returned to the area from the European theater of operations, according to a newspaper clipping on the upcoming funeral arrangements in the Sherman Democrat. The funeral arrangements were conducted by a joint team from the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The body was escorted to Denison by Tech. Sgt. James L. Corlett. Three of the children are buried near their parents in the Garden of Memory Cemetery in Colbert, Oklahoma. Sadly, all three children and Angus' father passed away within a few short years, all during World War II. Oscar E. Giles, was the fourth child to pass away. Oscar died in Denison, Texas hospital following a long illness. The Rev. Ernest Potter, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church conducted the services. Oscar was buried in Cederlawn Memorial Park in Denison, Texas. Oscar was a member of the Baptist Church, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Masonic Lodge and Knights Templar. In 1943, he was stationed at Camp Gruber in Oklahoma. He was a veteran of World War II.
