They had carefully surveyed and staked the town. The land had been allotted to Marie Jane Ady, a Choctaw Indian, by the Commission the Five Civilized Tribes. She sold it to W. D. Diamond August 13, 1908. Diamond was located about 7 miles north Durant near Blue River. The Diamonds expected the M.O.&G. Railroad depot to be built on this site. There was a storage building for railroad hand-cars already built. The Diamond Post Office was established June 25, 1910, with Florence Franklin as postmistress and was discontinued June 30, 1912. The mail then went to Kenefic, Okla. When the town failed to materialize, the Diamonds refunded money to the people who had bought lots and abandoned the townsite. It was then returned to agricultural use. On April 17,1919, Joseph Chapman McDonough bought the land from the Diamond heirs. Upon his death it was deeded to his son William Franklin McDonough as his part of the family estate.
