Akin, 73 Funeral services for Bob D. 'Bobby Don' Akin, 73, Kingston, will be at Texoma Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Paul Wheelus and son- in-law, Dr. Stan Norman, will officiate. Burial will be at Kingston Cemetery. Bob died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at the Madill Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Bob is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, the former Janice Corbin. He was born Sept. 6, 1929, to Bethel Annie and Holly Akin. He is preceded in death by his parents along with his infant brother, Lonnie Akin, and older brother Holly Akin Jr., as well as an infant grandson, Corbin Jim-Bob Akin. His wife, Janice Akin, Kingston, survives him. Also surviving are five children, their spouses and twelve grandchildren: Ralph and Lisa Akin, Jessica and Anthony, Denton, Texas; Mary and Joe Smith, Matthew and Stephanie, Denison, Texas; Don and Cindy Akin, and Mariquita Garcia, Del City; Joy and Stan Norman, Andrew, Daniel and Stephen, Mandeville, La.; and Emily and Mike Lee, Michael Mayes, Kelsey, Marshal and Mason, Davis. Also surviving are borthers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Johnnie and Becky Corbin, Durant; Louise Riddle, Tyler, Texas, and Tom and Suzanne Corbin, San Antonio, Texas. Pallbearers will be Tim Crews, Dewayne Hodge and nephews Sammy Riddle, Mike Norman, Clay Young and Steve Hardin. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Trammell, Wayne West, Harold Smith, Roscoe Pardue, Lawrence Wheeler, Monroe Barwick Jr., Bill Blakemore and G.C. Blakemore. Bob graduated from Kingston High School in 1950, and is a member of the Kingston Alumni Association. He received his bachelor of science degree and masters degree from Southeastern State College and his school administration certification from the University of Oklahoma. He was on the Kingston City Council in 1955 and actively involved in numerous political campaigns including Raymond Gary's successful run for the governor of Oklahoma. He was active in the Lion's Club for many years, including teaching Sunday School classes, serving on various committees and, along with his wife, sponsoring youth at Falls Creek Baptist Encampment. He is probably best remembered for his dedicated service to students in public schools throughout Oklahoma. He taught school in Lindsay, Plainview and Blanchard. He served as school superintendent at Camargo, Gate, Baker, Ft. Supply, Thackerville, Wapanucka, Grandfield, Dustin and Hanna. As an educator, he was known for his integrity, work ethic, professionalism and compassion. Family night is 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
