He was born to John Quincy Adams and Julia Anna Crownover on August 6, 1911, in Durant, Oklahoma, but moved to California at an early age. He got his education in San Bernardino and learned to make ice cream. He came to Red Bluff during the depression and since it was 110 in the shade he said he wouldn't stay in Red Bluff another day whereas he actually stayed in the area for more than 70 years. He stopped at Frank's Creamery on the corner of Main and Oak for a milk shake and Frank asked him what he did. When Floyd said "I am an ice cream maker" Frank tied an apron on him and he had a job. He ultimately moved on to Redding as ice cream maker for Redding Creamery. Floyd bought what he named Floyd's Fountain in the Cone & Kimball building on Walnut Street which he owned and operated throughout the forties. Cokes were made fresh with whatever flavor you wanted and cokes and cones were a nickel. There was a juke box and a pinball machine for music and amusement. There was an upstairs room in the back where some of the kids learned to dance. Floyd's Fountain was a popular refreshment spot for old and young alike. He owned and operated a farm equipment business with his brother, Les, for a time but his real love was electricity and he studied and became an electrical contractor, as Adams Electric. He retired in 1983 and enjoyed gardening, traveling and working in his shop. He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Mary Lou, two sons, John and Don, Grandchildren, Sarah, Jill and Mark and Great-Grandchildren Matthew, Emily and Maggie. He was a member of the Elks Club and Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church, at 838 Jefferson Street, on Saturday, July 24 at 12:00 noon to celebrate his life. Luncheon will be served immediately following in Fellowship Hall hosted by the Deacons. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice at 1425 Vista Way, Red Bluff, or the Presbyterian Church. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Bryan County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/bryan/bryan.htm
