Allen 1918-2007 Funeral services for Royal G. (Al) Allen will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Diana Cox Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home. Royal Allen was born January 7 1918 in Caddo Oklahoma, son of Charles Jackson Allen and Cora Ella (Ward) Allen and died unexpectedly on April 18, 2007 at his home in Muskogee. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Helen Allen, who died in June, 2004. He was a decorated World War II veteran, having reached the rank of Staff Sergeant in the 1015th Signal Company. In the last two years of the war, he served as Chief Radio Operator in a mobile Radio unit in the South West Pacific Area, where he supported combat operations of the 5th Air Force in New Guinea and Luzon. Among numerous commendations, he was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and a Bronze Star. In 1941 he married Helen Naomi Patterson, and in 1957 the Allen family moved to Muskogee. Royal was for many years the manager of the T.G.& Y. store in Lakeland Shopping Center. He was a member of First United Methodist’s Friendship Class for 40 years. He was active in the Optimist’s Club, the Muskogee Roundup Club. He was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation. He is survived by three daughters; Royallynn Allen of Crestone, CO, Mary Ann Allen of Pascoag, RI and Lori Allen of Boston, MA, and by a brother, Charles Ray Allen, of Durant.
