CHRISTINE BATES SUCCUMBS Mrs. Christine A Bates, one of Bryan county's oldest and most respected citizens passed away last evening at a local hospital after an illness of only two days. Mrs. Bates was stricken with paralysis Tuesday morning and never regained consciousness. She was one of the real pioneers of Oklahoma and Bryan County having been born about four miles from Durant in the Folsoc Grove neighborhood eighty seven years ago last October 10. Mrs. Bates was a daughter of Rev. Isreal Folsom, a well known Indian Presbyterian minister and was throughout her life a woman of substantial and vigorous Christian character. For many years she had been a member of the East Side Presbyterian church and was one of the charter members of that organization. As long as her strength permitted she was a constant attendant at church services and most active in the Master's work. Mrs. Bates was first married to Matt Bouton, and to this union were born three children, all of whom survive, Will Bouton and Mrs. Annie Yarbrough, Durant, and Mrs.Nellie Ingram of Ada. She was married after the death of her first husband to Henry Bates who passed away many years ago. In addition to her surviving children, Mrs. Bates is survived by a number of grandchildren- Lavere and Edmund Yarbrough, and Mrs. Klide Collier of Durant, Will Yarbrough of St. Louis, Mo., Bouton Ingram of Dallas, Mrs. Christine Farnsworth of of Ada and Whit Ingram of of Oklahoma City. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 at the First Presbyterian church and conducted by her paster Rev. R. R. Craig of the East Side Presbyterian assisted by Rev.W. N. Sholl.
