Bayless entered his eternal home on January 18, 2003 at the age of 90. He was born near Ashland, Oklahoma in Pittsburgh County on February 27, 1912 to Thomas J. and L. Clemmie Bayless. He graduated from high school in Kiowa, Oklahoma. After the death of his father, he worked on a dairy farm near Durant, Oklahoma so that he could obtain his Bachelor's of Science degree from Southeastern State College. He later obtained his Master's of Education degree from Oklahoma State University. V.T. was the superintendent of schools for many years at Ashland, Atwood, Oakwood, and Graham Schools. He taught math and history in the classroom as well as coaching when necessary He married Wilma A. Battles on October 23, 1948 in McAlester, Oklahoma. He retired from school teaching and administration in 1975 and returned to his home at Ashland only to work even harder with his garden and his cattle. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and served as an elder at the Ashland congregation for many years. He was a dedicated husband and father who had a wonderful sense of humor. His parents and three sisters, Lavon Wimberly, Jimmie Austin, and Gladys Bayless, have preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wilma, his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Steve Walker of Edmond, and two grandsons, Jonathan Bayless Walker and wife Sarah of Tulsa, and Steven Brett Walker of Edmond. Memorial services will be conducted at the Ashland Church of Christ at 10:30 a.m, on Tuesday, January 21, 2003. Interment will be at the Ashland Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
