Benton LORENZO - Woodrow W. Benton, 78, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997. Services were Saturday in Lorenzo First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Williams, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Idalou Cemetery at Idalou by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Benton was born in Matoy, Okla. He was a farmer and a construction worker. He served with the Army during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He was Baptist. He married Wilma Baker in 1941 at Clovis, N.M. Mr. Benton moved from Plainview to Lorenzo in 1968. He had lived in the Estacado area for several years. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Wayne Benton and Roger Benton, both of Amarillo; five daughters, Lanita Goodrum and Carolyn Kirkpatrick, both of Slaton, Shirley Hunt of Amarillo, Lisa Odgers of Fort Worth and Linda Powell of Lorenzo; four sisters, Irene Coe of Plainview, Bernice Noble of Amarillo, and Opal Davis and Mary Koonce, both of Lubbock; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Bryan County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/bryan/bryan.htm
