"Bill" Burkhalter, 77, Calera, who died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at the Veterans’ Administration Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Family hour will be 6-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Coffey-Murray Funeral Home is handling arrangements. =========== Friday, September 19, 2003 Durant Daily Democrat C. L. "Bill" Burkhalter, 77 A service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Baptist Church for C. L. "Bill" Burkhalter, 77, Calera, who died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Pastors Jim Pena and Darrell Edwards will officiate. He was born Thursday, Dec. 24, 1925, in Caddo to Charles Allen and Viola (Riter) Burkhalter. He married Imateen Benedict June 23, 1945, in Durant. He was a lifelong resident of Bryan County and a member of the VFW and DAV chapters in Durant. He worked as a welder and loved tinkering, going to flea markets and all kinds of sports, but his first love was his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Rebecca Ann; brothers L. A. "Buck", Charles, Haney and Billy Glenn Burkhalter. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery with pallbearers Dennis Pena, Danny Anderson, Bobby Anderson, Ricky Burkhalter, Charles Maxey, Greg Burkhalter, Charles Anthony Burkhalter and Stephen Burkhalter. Family hour is 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
