Monday, October 20, 2003 Durant Daily Democrat Otto Brady, 83 A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Village Baptist Church, Destin, Fla., for former Durant resident Otto Whitfield Brady, 83, Sandestin, Fla., who died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at his residence. The Rev. Steven Davies will officiate. Emerald Coast Funeral Home, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., is handling arrangements. ============ Wednesday, October 22, 2003 Durant Daily Democrat Otto Brady, 83 Otto Whitfield Brady, 83, Sandestin, Fla., passed away Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at his residence. He was born Aug. 26, 1920, in Brunswick, Ga., to Otto Whitfield and Elinor Jacobs Brady. He moved to Miami, Fla., at an early age and attended Miami Edison High School. He joined the Navy at age 19 and served in World War II as a Lieutenant jg, having graduated from the U.S. Maritime Academy. He continued to serve in the reserve for the next 25 years. While in Miami, Otto owned and operated Brady Mercantile Company, a retail hardware and lumber store. He served on the Florida Dade County Grand Jury and also served on the Board of Directors for the Commercial Bank of Miami. He was a Deacon at the Miami Shores Baptist Church. He was in the restaurant business from 1975-80 in Durant, and owned the El Chicos and Woodie’s Barbeque Restaurants in Destin. He was a past president and 50 year member of the Rotary Club, and also past president of the Gerogia-Florida Hardware Association and the Durant Country Club. He was a member of the Village Baptist Church in Destin. He was also a member of the Masons, Scottish Rite, and Shriners (Mah Temple). He was an avid golfer and created the Burnt Pine Country Club ‘Medi-care’ Golf Group which was later renamed ‘The Brady Bunch.’ In 1990, he married Doris Freeman. A memorial service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Village Baptist Church, Destin, with the Rev. Steven Davies officiating.
